Curtailing patents will cripple R&D on pharmaceuticals, industry warns
The chief spokesman for pharmaceutical manufacturers says President Obama has stuck two thorns in the industry’s side at a time marked by uncertainty as lawmakers contemplate cutting health care programs and battles over the new health care law wind their way through the courts.
When the president presented his deficit-cutting plan last week, he included measures that will drive up drug prices and squash investment in companies that develop drugs and medical devices, said John Castellani, president of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA).
The industry is especially fuming over Mr. Obama’s push to reduce the length of time a company can produce biologic drugs exclusively by paring the patent protection time frame from 12 years down to seven.

Voters strongly support term limits for all members of Congress but don’t think it’s very likely the national legislators will vote to limit how long they can serve.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 71% of Likely U.S. Voters favor establishing term limits for all members of Congress. Just 14% oppose setting such limits, and 15% are undecided about them. (To see survey question wording, click here.)
Voter support for term limits has remained high even after the U.S. Supreme Court issued a 5-4 ruling that individual states did not have the right to place limits on its representatives. As a practical matter, that 1995 court decision means only Congress has the authority to place limits on itself.
But only 18% of all voters think Congress is even somewhat likely to pass legislation that establishes term limits on people elected to Congress, with five percent (5%) who say it’s Very Likely. Seventy-five percent (75%) feel Congress is unlikely to limit how long its members can serve. That includes 27% who say it’s Not At All Likely. According to Scott Rasmussen, president of Rasmussen Reports, “Voters recognize that expecting Members of Congress to place reasonable limits on themselves is like expecting toddlers to select a reasonable bedtime.”
Free roaming cats. They kill everything I love
I need to get this off my chest in regard to free roaming cats. They kill everything I love – they are hyperpredators, often killing for sport – not food. Whole nests of baby cardinals and baby robins (including one of the parent birds) were killed in just our yard alone – just killed, their heads ripped off, their wings broken – not eaten. This has happened to whole nests of baby bunnies,too. To hear their death screams is like listening to children getting brutally murdered. It’s horrible. Steven King could take a lesson.
I was once told by Tyco Animal Control that this is “the cycle of life”. Maybe for the cats, but certainly not for the helpless, fragile animals and birds they senselessly torment, totture, skin alive, then kill. Keep your G- Damn cats inside. I am sick of listening to death screams and cleaning up bloodied, mutilated bodies. The hearts of our dwindling birds and wildlife have just as much right to beat as your nasty, murderous, hateful cats’. Keep cats indoors only PLEASE. Keep them leashed and under control when out!Animal Control please do your job! If this is not the very definition of out of control I don’t know what is!Please.

In the straw poll in Florida over the weekend, Mr. Herman Cain clobbered the GOP front-runners, Governor Rick Perry and former governor Mitt Romney. It wasn’t even close!

VAN SUSTEREN: It’s always more fun to win, isn’t it?
CAIN: It’s a lot more fun to win, especially when the people are sending two distinct messages from this Florida straw poll. Number one, the voice of the people is stronger than the voice of the media. You know that the mainstream media has been trying to make the Republican nomination into a two-person race, or if not that, like last August, they want to basically turn it into the flavor of the week.
The second message is message is more powerful than money. My opponents, they spent a considerable amount of money trying to influence the outcome of this straw poll. I rented a bus, traveled around the state, talked to people, held rallies and shared my common sense, simple message about what we need to do to fix things, especially the economy, and the whole 9-9-9 solution is resonating with people.

(CNN) – Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul rallied a sold- out crowd of more than 1800 of his most ardent under-thirty-year-old supporters in New York City Monday night.
Tickets to the event cost $20-25. It was originally scheduled to take place at the famed Webster Hall’s Marlin Room, but, the event had to be moved to a room twice as large at the last minute due to an overwhelming response. The final setting was in the Grand Ballroom, which has hosted celebrities to the scale of Mick Jagger and Madonna.
“We are seeing a level of enthusiasm for Ron Paul that can be compared with President Obama in 2008”, said Eric Brakey, Media Coordinator for NYC Liberty HQ, the grassroots organization hosting the rally for the candidate. “Congressman Paul’s youth support is different now than it was during his last presidential campaign. It’s more organized and it’s picking up steam and continues to grow”.

Lately, I have read many complaints by Patriots voicing their frustration with our Government. They have taken just about every legal and Constitutional step to catch the attention of their legislators and their President, that only resulted in being lied to, ignored, stalled, and condescended to. The debt ceiling was raised, in spite of the pressure of the majority of the people. Boehner and the RINOs caved in and got 353 million in spending cuts that was supposed to be around 3 trillion, and the only honest Representatives were the 66 who were mostly newly-elected Tea Party Conservatives. The promised jobs are not forthcoming, the debt continues to grow, along with the spending, and American Industry is fettered by additional chains of regulation, created unconstitutionally by bureaucrats, with no input or control by our elected Representatives. In fairness, this is the culmination of decades of abuse and usurpation of power by all parties, driven by self-interest, greed, and catering to the lobbyists of special interests.
I am writing today, not to re-hash the repetitious daily blathering that we tend to tune out, but to tell you all that the time has come for action. To continue what we have been doing can no longer be effective, because we are running out of time. It is all well and good to continue to seek control of the Senate and the White House in 2012, and we should not stop, but there are a couple of things that worry me. One is that, between now and the elections, President Obama and his Administration have the ability to do so much further harm to the Country, that it will be too late to ever reverse it. Even now, if we take on no more debt whatsoever, we may never recover. While we were supposed to have stopped borrowing and taxing, the Administration is seeking 447 billion additional dollars through a Jobs Bill that will only waste the money on creating more Government jobs, more jobs for their Union cronies, and for projects like Solyndra and Lightsquared. My second worry is that the Obama election machine is reviving the renamed ACORN groups, with the same employer IDs, addresses, and Boards of Directors – just the new names. Already, they have had taxpayer funds illegally given to them by HUD, and are up for 6 billion more in funding – in violation of laws passed by Congress. There is no doubt that these funds are meant to give these groups the means to provide votes for Obama in the 2012 election. As was seen in 2008, when 14 States indicted ACORN members and officers for voter fraud, I guarantee they will illegally be there, fully funded, and getting every illegal alien and dead person to vote for Obama, in 2012. In other words, you understood me correctly, if you thought I was suggesting the election may be stolen.

Doctor And AMA Split Over Contentious Issue Of ObamaCare
For more than 160 years, the American Medical Association has served as the self-appointed chief lobbying group for doctors. But the AMA’s lofty status has been under threat over the last several years — and is under attack today. In fact, the AMA now only counts about 17% of doctors as members.
According to a new survey, the majority of doctors do not believe that the AMA represents their views and interests. Much of that dissatisfaction stems from the organization’s support for President Obama’s contentious health care reform package.
That shouldn’t be surprising. The AMA declares that its core mission is to “help doctors help patients.” But ObamaCare undermines that pursuit by making life harder for physicians and driving down the quality of care available to patients.
The survey — conducted by physician recruitment firm Jackson & Coker — is a brutal indictment of both the AMA and ObamaCare. Just 13% of doctors agree with their trade association’s support of the health reform law.

American Legion Post 53’s proposal for a Veterans Day rededication of Graydon Park was unanimously approved at the Village Council meeting on Wednesday following some changes to the original plans
Plans for the project began with the rediscovery of plaques at Graydon Park in remembrance of 14 Ridgewood casualties in World War I. Legionnaire Chris Stout has since spearheaded an effort to collect the original plaques – some of which are still visible, while others have been located feet beneath the ground – and create a new plaque with the names listed, to be installed at the Graydon Pool Badge Desk, facing the entrance patio.
The original plaques each accompanied a white ash tree, part of a 1931 Armistice Day commemoration that also marked the official dedication of Graydon Park. Only four of the trees remain.

Grant may fund new ADA ramp at Graydon Pool

The Village Council has approved a $60,000 county grant application that, if received, would help pay for the costs of a ramp into Graydon Pool’s waters on the northeast corner of the pool.
The ramp, which would be compliant with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements and could cost between $85,000 and $100,000, has been on the agenda for Councilman Paul Aronsohn, chair of the Community Access Network, through the course of this year. The rest of the council has largely jumped on board in support of improving accessibility into the pool.
“I think we’re heading in the right direction,” Aronsohn said at a Sept. 7 council meeting, when members decided to endorse the application. The endorsement was approved last week.
There were still questions about improving access into Graydon Park’s grounds, where access ramps into the park are too steep for people in wheelchairs to use on their own. Councilwoman Bernadette Walsh said she feared the village was “putting the cart before the horse” by focusing its grant application on the access into the water rather than into the park.

If Valley were to reduce to Greenwich’s size by letting Pascack reopen and scaling back their size, I’d be delighted to support reconstruction to switch to all one-patient rooms.
