Jason Collins former fiancee claims she didn’t know he was gay

Jason Collins made headlines this week by being the first player in the four major US sports to come out of the closet .Collins in the twilight of his career made the announcement much to the chagrin of NFL commissioner Roger Goodell who it is said for sometime was looking to make headlines with a similar announcement from the NFL involving if rumors are to be believed 4 players .

Collins perhaps looking to rekindle his faded career beat them to the punch .

In even bigger news Carolyn Moos who played a few seasons in the WNBA and  dated Collins for seven years then was engaged to him until they broke up in 2009 told TMZ claiming she never once suspected he was gay.

Moos says Collins eventually revealed everything last weekend just days before his big announcement and said that his homosexuality was the real reason he ended things with her.https://www.tmz.com/2013/04/30/jason-collins-carolyn-moos-fiancee-gay/#ixzz2Ry9DORzK

While the mainstream media went into feeding frenzy ,most avid sports fans seemed to having ‘gay fatigue” and would prefer he made his free throws.

Meanwhile in other news latest reports show the economy still dead in the water , the Boston Bombers may have not acted along and had been trained by terror groups while receiving generous welfare and financial aid of over $100,000 from both the federal government and the state of Massachusetts .

Benghazi is back on the front burner with claims of threats against whistle-blowers and government engineered cover up of the fact that he U.S. had highly trained forces just a few hours away who contrary to the Obama administration story could have  responded in plenty of time. ttp://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/04/30/special-ops-benghazi-whistleblower-tells-fox-news-government-could-have/#ixzz2Rya2p6FK

Obamacare is causing a lot of concern with with a surge in insurance premiums  ,loss of primary care doctors and perhaps even less people being covered by medical insurance then before Obamacare.

North Korea is still waving the magic nuclear bullet at the west ,and  Syrian rebels have been found to have Sarin gas residue in their blood ,in clear violation of Presidents Obama’s red line in the sand policy.

Crony capitalism is still live and well with form Clinton Adviser Terry McAuliffe federally funded buy of a refrigerator factory to use for Greentech first production facility.Leading critics to call it “”McAuliffe Car Funding A ‘Fraud” .’

Local Students Gather letter of Support for the Victims of the Sandy Hook Tragedy
April 30 ,2013
the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Kenny Song, 17, of Ridgewood and Justin Kim, 18, of Closter created a website  ( https://www.letterstosandyhook.com/ )  in which people could share messages of grief, support and hope for the families and friends of the victims, of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. (https://www.northjersey.com/news/205346301_Students__book_comforts_Newtown_families_.html )

In the article “Students’ book comforts Newtown families” Tantiana Schlossberg of the Bergen record details the driving forces behind the students looking to share grief and comfort those who suffered .

Shortly after the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, two Bergen County Academies students created a worldwide forum for grief. Now they’re turning it into a book.

Kenny Song, 17, of Ridgewood and Justin Kim, 18, of Closter created a website in which people could share messages of grief, support and hope for the families and friends of the victims, as well as for one another.

The website, letterstosandyhook.com, collected 318 letters over the course of a month, including submissions from all over the world. The goal of the project was to create a book to send to the families of the victims, and now Song says he and Kim will do just that. ( https://www.northjersey.com/news/205346301_Students__book_comforts_Newtown_families_.html )

According to the website ; the website is the bridge between the families of the victims and the people who want to reach out. With all the heartfelt but scattered posts on Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr, we wanted to create an easy way for anyone to write a letter, and to collect it all in one place. It gives people an effective way to comfort the heartbroken, and it acts as a way for people to become aware of how much others care.

The tragedy that recently took place in Sandy Hook Elementary School is truly unforgettable, and many people have been emotionally hurt by it. Families and many others are heartbroken, and Newtown is in turmoil. Giving the families of victims a comforting word or two can go a long way in helping them, and we want to make an easy way to reach out to them.

Street Smarts

The Ridgewood News Superintendent’s Corner April 2013

Street Smarts

The following column appeared in The Ridgewood News on April 26, 2013

As I often do in April, this month I’m taking the topic of safety back to the streets.
A simple message that I often use when communicating important information to parents and guardians is this: The safety of our children is my utmost concern  It’s a phrase that I’ve written in letters responding to difficult events that have impacted our community both directly and peripherally, from the acute events of Super Storm Sandy to the Sandy shootings, for example.

These words, as much as they are intended to reassure, go beyond sincere intentions to the heart of our operating system. This phrase is a grounding expression that serves as the foundation for all that we do in the Ridgewood Public Schools, providing an essential framework for the pursuit of our mission of excellence. Safety is the first question we ask when exploring any changes in our district, when we plan new protocols and adopt new policies, when we design renovations to our facilities. It’s a phrase that cannot be repeated too often.

Unfortunately, our security was once again questioned when earlier this month we all witnessed the senseless bombings at the Boston Marathon and then the tragic fertilizer explosion in Texas. Horrific events like these make a deep and lasting impact on us . Since I am a runner and know people who ran in Boston, these events have particularly strengthened my resolve not only to serve as a school administrator but also to make sure our facilities and our events are as safe as possible, while remaining friendly and welcoming.

NJ Politicians Not Likely to Face Up to Fiscal Crisis Before 2017

Good news, not bad, plays well with voters in election year, according to political scientists
By Mark J. Magyar, April 29, 2013 in More Issues

New Jersey faces a major long-term fiscal crisis that it should deal with now, but don’t look for political leaders from either party to even talk about the problem seriously until at least 2017, political scientists agree.

“There’s the reality of the numbers and the reality of the political situation,” said Ben Dworkin, director of Rider University’s Rebovich Institute for New Jersey Politics. “The numbers are daunting. Even after the recent reforms, we are still talking about tens of billions of dollars needed for pension and retiree health benefits.”

Remember the Economy? It’s Still Bad

Remember the Economy? It’s Still Bad
Derrick Morgan
April 30, 2013 at 7:09 am

According to a poll earlier this year, voters have a higher opinion of cockroaches than Congressmen. President Obama’s personal popularity remains solid, but his job approval rating is going down. Why are our elected officials unpopular?

It might just be because they are not listening. In poll after poll, the American people continue to tell Washington that their top priority is the economy. A recent Fox News poll asked participants what is the most important issue facing the nation. The results: the economy got 42 percent, deficit 17 percent, guns 5 percent, and immigration 4 percent.

President Obama inherited a weak economy, to be sure, but his policies, including Obamacare with its costly expected mandates on businesses and the Dodd-Frank financial services regulations have made the situation worse. Even when we see some economic growth, the jobs growth has been feeble. People have been leaving the workforce. Heritage’s James Sherk noted recently, “Labor force participation dropped to 63.3 percent, the lowest rate since 1979..” America needs to get its people back to productive work, not recruit Americans to start taking food stamps.

Instead of working on bills that would help the economy, right now the politicians are working on an Internet sales tax bill and a comprehensive immigration bill offering amnesty.

The liberals’ push on each of these issues will be destructive to our liberties. The Heritage Foundation and Heritage Action have been fighting liberal policy each step of the way.

Heritage continues to fight on immigration, pointing out major flaws in the Gang of Eight’s plan and calculating how much an amnesty would cost American taxpayers.

Heritage has also criticized the move for a new Internet sales tax to help states raise more funds to grow government. The Senate is considering forcing businesses to collect taxes for states where they have no physical presence—an affront to representative government and the camel’s nose under the proverbial tent of Internet regulation.

Liberals effectively control the agenda in Washington. Harry Reid (D-NV) has the gavel in the Senate, and President Obama has the bully pulpit. Washington is focused on what they want to talk about and what they are pushing. A compliant press corps certainly amplifies their message.

But conservatives in the House of Representatives are not helpless. They should try to set the agenda on the economy. Last session, they passed some 40 bills that they said would be good for the economy, all of which died in the Senate. But in this Congress, they seem to have given up.

In some ways, who can blame them since liberals reject their ideas out of hand? It would be far better for America, though, if they would set forth their own agenda and make clear that distractions like comprehensive immigration reform with amnesty, and the Internet sales tax are going nowhere in the House.

Instead, House leadership is almost inviting the divisive and distracting issues by saying nothing, or worse, saying the House will take up similar legislation (in the case of immigration reform).

Washington could do a number of things to improve the economy. Here are three especially relevant now: (1) reverse the New Year’s tax hikes that are already hurting economic growth, (2) take steps, even modest ones supported by both parties, to reduce the unfunded long-term obligations of entitlement programs and get us on a path to balance the budget in 10 years (because adding debt slows the economy), and (3) repeal, or at least delay, Obamacare, whose crushing mandates and costs are destroying jobs and trampling on the religious liberty of employers from Hobby Lobby to social service ministries to homeless shelters.

If those sound too partisan, why not take an easy first step and approve the Keystone XL pipeline? It would create thousands of well-paid jobs. The President could act, but if he does not, then Congress should approve the pipeline and force the President to veto it. During the Senate budget debate, an amendment from Senator John Hoeven (R-ND) supporting Keystone passed 62-37.

We know that America’s economy won’t be helped when liberals are waging ideological battles. Conservatives in states like Wisconsin, Texas, and South Carolina are showing they have real solutions that benefit all their citizens. They are fighting for limited government, lower taxes, balanced budgets, and more economic freedom.

Conservatives in Washington should take notice. Washington politicians will continue to be unpopular with the American people if they focus on the wrong issues and do so in a way that divides the American people. Wake up, Washington—our economy is hurting.

The Ridgewood Police netted 74 pounds of unwanted prescription medication

The Ridgewood Police netted 74 pounds of unwanted prescription medication
April 30,2013
the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, The Ridgewood Police are reporting that  Operation take back netted 74 pounds of unwanted prescription medication turned into the Ridgewood Police department on Saturday April 27th on National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day .

To reiterate the Ridgewood Police as to why should you turn in your unused or unwanted prescription medications for proper disposal :

Unused or expired prescription medications are a public safety issue, leading to accidental poisoning, overdose, and abuse.

Pharmaceutical drugs can be just as dangerous as street drugs when taken without a prescription or a doctor’s supervision.

The non-medical use of prescription drugs ranks second only to marijuana as the most common form of drug abuse in America.

The majority of teenagers abusing prescription drugs get them from family and friends – and the home medicine cabinet.

Unused prescription drugs thrown in the trash can be retrieved and abused or illegally sold. Unused drugs that are flushed contaminate the water supply. Proper disposal of unused drugs saves lives and protects the environment.

Deputy Mayor Al Pucciarelli pushes site for New Fleet Services Garage

Deputy Mayor Al Pucciarelli pushes site for New Fleet Services Garage
April 30, 2013
the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, The Ridgewood News is reporting that an L-shaped piece of land on the edge of the Village is being eyed by officials as the proposed site for a new village garage or fleet services building.( https://www.northjersey.com/news/205346291_Ridgewood_weighs_site_for_garage.html )

The current garage on Chestnut street has become antiquated and inefficient and the Village has been debating replacement for some time.

Deputy Mayor Al Pucciarelli the driving force behind the push to move the garage told the Ridgewood News that during the council’s meeting on Wednesday that 2 acres of land, located on the same site as the village’s water pollution plant, is “in many ways very suitable” for the new building, both in size and location. ( https://www.northjersey.com/news/205346291_Ridgewood_weighs_site_for_garage.html )

The water pollution plant is located on Prospect Street in Glen Rock, right on the village’s border with the borough.

Pucciarelli reiterated to the Ridgewood News his idea that the village would  sell its Chestnut Street property, using the proceeds from that transfer to erect a new fleet services building.( https://www.northjersey.com/news/205346291_Ridgewood_weighs_site_for_garage.html )

There are no reports of any discussions with the Borough of Glen Rock  and an estimated price tag  was not given .The process would be a long one with approvals needed from the DEP. The new facility would also need a large fuel tank , gas pump, as well as a dome for salt storage further complicating the issue .

At this time no formal action was taken by the Village Council .

Student Stands Trial For Allegedly Calling Classmate ‘Horse’ and ‘Fat’
By Evan Bleier, Mon, April 29, 2013

New Jersey’s strict anti-bullying laws now mean that the state must hold trials when children call each other names in the schoolyard. After allegedly calling a female classmate “horse,” “fat,” and “fat ass,” an eighth-grader from Ridgewood, N.J., found himself in the courtroom.

The boy has admitted to calling the other student “horse” but denies using the other offensive terms. “I never made any remarks other than horse,” he said while giving testimony. “I did not have any intent.”

His family is concerned that what they perceive as a minor incident will result in the boy having a bullying charge on his permanent record. In the hopes of having the charge stricken from his record, they insisted that the case go to trial, the Daily Caller reported.

Female DNA Found on Bomb in Boston Attack

Female DNA Found on Bomb in Boston Attack
By EVAN PEREZ , DEVLIN BARRETT and ALAN CULLISON

Investigators have found female DNA on at least one of the bombs used in the Boston Marathon attacks, though they haven’t determined whose DNA it is or whether its presence means a woman helped the two brothers suspected in the bombings, according to U.S. officials briefed on the probe.

In another development, Russian officials revealed details about contacts between the older brother and suspected Islamist radicals in the Caucasus, including Internet exchanges that led to concerns by investigators that he was trying to join up with jihadist fighters.

Speaking Monday about the DNA discovery, the U.S. officials cautioned that there could be multiple explanations for why genetic material from someone other than the two bombing suspects—Tamerlan Tsarnaev and his younger brother, Dzhokhar—could have been found on remnants of the exploded devices. It could have come, for example, from a store clerk who handled materials used in the bombs or a stray hair that ended up in the bomb.

Ridgewood Board of Education opposing potential aid loss

Ridgewood Board of Education opposing potential aid loss

The Ridgewood News

School districts with an attendance rate below 96 percent will lose school aid for the 2013/2014 school year, if state legislators heed a New Jersey Department of Education (DOE) recommendation.

The proposal has upset school officials across the state, including members of the Ridgewood Board of Education (BOE), who voted last week to send a resolution to legislators that encourages the rejection of the recommendation.

It is an issue that administrators believe could potentially affect Ridgewood.

“We’re in the range of 96 to 97 percent. We have less than 1 percent of attendance as a buffer,” said Assistant Superintendent for Business Angelo DeSimone.
