BOE Elections: James Morgan Supports More Openness at BOE

To the Editor

Your comment on Senator Weinberg’s proposed amendments to the state sunshine law are well considered; especially with respect to governing bodies subcommittees. In our town, Ridgewood, the school board has created a system of such subcommittees, each with less than a majority of the BOE’s members. Much of the Board’s substantive work is considered in these meetings.

The Board refuses to release committee meeting agendas or minutes citing the OPRA law as a shield. This is an unfair circumvention of the clear intent of Sunshine laws. It is not “good government”. The practice should be changed.
