As has been posted before, there is another technology called (I think) DAS which does not require towers at all. It works well, and only involves small pods on existing poles and wiring etc.

Carriers will always resist it though, because it costs far more to implement than towers do. Also with towers, they can lease and re-lease space on them to other carriers. Newer carriers such as T-Mobile of course have no owned infrastructure they can use, they would have to lease space on poles from utilities which own them — no wonder they are never in favor of the better system.

The coverage using DAS is also much better because there are more “sites” than on a tower.

Cell carriers always put this technology down – again due to cost. But where it has been implemented, it works well. Even systems using it that were built years ago now apparently still work well, and the technology has improved since back then.

Towers have been pitched here before, for a long time. There are records somewhere (unless Vill threw them out!) of the Village being opposed to one the State wanted to build on maint. property on Franklin Tpk. One of the reasons they opposed it was Village’s own consultants, an appraisal firm, stated that cell towers def. impact property values nearby (and “nearby” is often a wider area than you’d think).

But the Village had to be dragged into opposing that tower. Initially they said “we can do nothing, it’s the State” and it took big public opposition at the hearings to get the VC at the time to change and actually get something done. Tom Riche was on the VC back then, Mancuso was mayor at the time. Stoldt- the Village Atty- in the end drafted a resolution which they passed opposing it.

The State then backed off. But there are more chapters to that story involving the monopole just down the road (near Rwd Press) that was put up but seems to have no cells at all on it.

Hard to understand why no one has dug out the old records on all this stuff, since they are pretty compelling as to these same issues being raised again. Maybe the Village threw out the records after a flood or something…. sure would like to know though.
