CHERRY HILL, NJ – U.S. Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01) Democrat released the below statement after the Trump Administration posted text for an updated North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) / United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement:
“As I review this agreement, I’ll be making sure we are raising wages for workers, safeguarding workers’ rights and reducing outsourcing. And, above all, the newly agreed-upon terms must be properly enforced or else the negotiations will be meaningless.
“I’ve long-said that our country can benefit by moving away from the old, job-killing trade model that the corporate lobby drafted. However, a thorough review of this deal is in order – the devil is truly in the details.
“Our workforce suffered from NAFTA, and in South Jersey alone 19,500 manufacturing jobs have been lost since NAFTA came into force, which is simply unacceptable. I will make my final judgement on the new trade deal based on its impact on America’s workers.”
