Ridgewood NJ, At Wednesday night council meeting, councilman Voigt proposed Financial Advisory Committee recommendations to increase the EMS service fee structure that our village charges. Like the parking fees the FAC finds an opportunity there to make money. Councilmen Voigt said there was, “an opportunity to raise fees significantly  “Under the plan Ambulance fees would increase and fees for things such as Oxygen.

On the positive it was pointed out that the Village contract with the Valley Hospital EMS was out of date and needed to be renegotiated as well as there was $70,000 owned to the Village in past due services.
During the the question and answer period the FAC was once again challenged and its recommendations were looked at with suspicion . Readers will remember that the FAC recommended even high parking fees and when the current ones were enacted by the council ,the FAC immediately began attacking and undermining the mayor  over the parking fees.
Residents seemed to be finally getting fed up with all the fee increases and thought it showed poor judgement, making the Village look like it was trying to milk the sick.

  1. Does Ridgewood ambulance balance bill?

When a person has an emergency there is no time to locate an “in-network” service provider. In some towns ambulance services operate like tow truck drivers

  2. Next thing you know the FAC will recommend that Ridgewood PD establish a charge for responding to your home for any purpose other than bonafide emergency and that Ridgewood FD do the same except if there’s a fire they need to put out.

  3. let’s nickel and dime everyone. hey I have an idea. how about we install scales on the garbage trucks and weigh each family’s garbage and charge by the pound.

  4. I thought it was great presentation. He said there are something like 600 line items of charges to residents and he suggested reducing that to 300 and removing nonsense fees like garage sale permits of $5. I’d like to see them come back with specifics just like the council suggested.

    1. that was the early presentation , with the fee spread sheets , working on an post on that right now ,stay tuned

  5. An opportunity to make money from a resident who is experiencing a health emergency. The ambulance ride is only the beginning of the expenses. I speak as a person WITH health insurance

  6. Raising fees wherever they can; charging for oxygen in an ambulance, saying insurance will pay; well insurance costs money, rates go up, at least for me they do every year. My response; I will never shop or eat in the CBD again. Let the CBD rot with their raised rates. Didn’t they say they wanted to raise the fee for the farmer’s market vendors. It is an honor and a privilege to get fresh local produce. Do they want me to just buy cigars at that store in Ridgewood. Never have; never will. But I’ll bet that cigar store license goes for free. You know what: fuck it; I’ll get my fresh local produce at the new Glen Rock farmer’s market. Did ya see the Record article about it? All organic and sustainable. That’s my name all right. Here I come. Bye bye, piggy Ridgewood. I’ve set my standard high.

  7. Voight was a wreck last night. I was expecting him to get dragged out in a straight jacket at any minute. Members of the FAC should resign. Do they not realize they are mere puppets in a very large production?

  8. how much is a band aid.
    10 bucks.
