Topic: Fire and Ice: Winter Festivals at New Bridge

At the darkest time of year, all European peoples, especially those in the more northerly climes, felt the need to break the monotony of cold and night with festivals. Over the centuries, the incorporation of these celebrations into the Christian calendar insured their continuation even into our times. BCHS Volunteer Coordinator and historical interpreter Kate Reilly examines the traditions and practices European settlers continued in the New World (and that we commemorate at New Bridge) in order to bring light into the winter gloom. Meet at the Steuben House.
