Ridgewood NJ, North Jersey District Water Supply Commission announced that former Bergen County Freeholder Ridgewood resident Todd Caliguire, a Republican lawyer who ran unsuccessfully for governor and county executive, would be the agency’s new executive director.

Caliguire will head a new management team at the dysfunctional 96-year-old agency, which has been under pressure from Governor Christie since the Christie administration announced that an 18-month review found a lack of financial controls and other “troubling” issues at NJDWSC. The Christie administration has now referred its findings to state Comptroller Matthew Boxer for investigation.

The appointment of Caliguire comes just two weeks after the Governors review. The North Jersey District Water Supply Commission ( NJDWSC ) serves over 2 million people across North Jersey as the state’s largest supplier of drinking water.

Not everyone is happy with Caliguire .New Jersey Sierra Club chief Jeff Tittel told the Bergen Record Caliguire’s appointment is another step toward the politicization of an agency that, while flawed in some respects, has been a stalwart protector of the Highlands watershed and an opponent of development there. He also said Caliguire lacks credentials on environmental matters.( http://www.northjersey.com/news/North_Jersey_water_commission_announces_new_head_of_management_team.html )

We have to giggle a bit at that one ,the agency is known more for corruption and overpaying its executives, than water and has been a serious point of contention with the Governor for some time . It is a shame that the New Jersey Sierra Club has become nothing more than another political lobbying arm for the Democratic party and has been put in a position to support waste , corruption, and ineptitude

While Caliguire to our knowledge has no direct work experience working in the water industry we fail to see how any of the previous commissioners did either most were pure political appointees . Caliguire has both business and government experience and is know for his out of the box thinking making him uniquely qualified for the task at hand.
