Borough of Ho-Ho-Kus to hold its Annual Memorial Day Parade Monday, May 30, at 10:30 AM

Ho-Ho-Kus NJ, on Monday, May 30, at 10:30 AM, the Borough of Ho-Ho-Kus will hold its annual Memorial Day Parade starting at Sheridan and Ardmore Avenues and concluding at the War Memorial on East Franklin Turnpike for a Remembrance Ceremony hosted by the V.F.W. Washington Post 192. The ceremony will feature a wreath laying, a rifle salute and a dedication to the unveiling of our Hometown Hero decorative banners honoring our own Ho-Ho-Kus military service members.

Academy of the Holy Angels Volunteers Place Flags for Memorial Day

Demarest NJ,  Angels for Veterans Moderator Angela Kunz and group member Reilly Guy ensured that veterans who are interred at the Fair Lawn Memorial Cemetery & Mausoleum would be remembered on Memorial Day. These Academy of the Holy Angels volunteers worked with the Fair Lawn Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts to place an American flag on every veteran’s grave.

Bus service to/from Six Flags and weekend bus service between American Dream and the Port Authority Bus Terminal (PABT) both resume Saturday, May 29th.

Thousands of Bergen County residents have answered their nation’s call to arms in defense of liberty and freedom

New Bridge Landing NJ, As we continue on this Memorial Day we mourn not only the absence of each other’s company but in the true spirit of the day, the honored war dead from our nation’s past. From the founding of the United States through today, thousands of Bergen County residents have answered their nation’s call to arms in defense of liberty and freedom, at home and abroad. Many never returned to enjoy their homes and families. Each Memorial Day in the recent past, we in the Bergen County Historical Society have chosen to gather at the Hackensack grave of Brigadier General Enoch Poor, as representative of those in the American Revolution who gave their lives during the fight to establish what the Declaration of Independence proclaimed.

We do not know the names of all of those from Bergen County who fell during the American Revolution, though we do know some, particularly the ones named below, all of whom served as captains in the Bergen County Militia:

On this Memorial Day weekend, we remember those who sacrificed their lives for “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who are grieving. May we, as Abraham Lincoln famously said, “highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain–that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom–and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”

New Jersey State Trooper Rescued three Kayakers who were Stranded near Sandy Hook

Sandy Hook NJ, Yesterday, New Jersey State Troopers from the Marine Services Bureau Carteret Station rescued three kayakers who were stranded on Spermaceti Cove after one of their kayaks capsized in Sandy Hook Bay. At approximately 5:56 p.m., Sergeant Satsay Thongvichith, Trooper I John Oliveira, and Trooper I Tamas Antal were dispatched to the report of three distressed kayakers half a mile off the coast of Sandy Hook.
When troopers arrived, they observed the victims stranded on the sandbar, unable to return to shore due to the rough conditions.
