Rochelle Park NJ, Three (3) men were quickly apprehended in connection with a late Monday afternoon, 08/01, multi-vehicle crash on Route 17 southbound near East Passaic Street, Rochelle Park, that involved a white Mercedes SUV that was being pursued by Paramus Police units. The Mercedes had allegedly been stolen recently from Manalapan, NJ. At least two (2) tow trucks were observed removing wrecked vehicles from the clogged highway. A pursuing Paramus Police patrol vehicle was reportedly one of the vehicles damaged in the pileup. One (1) injury was linked to the incident; a Paramus EMS ambulance was dispatched to aid the adult female victim, who sustained a non-life threatening leg injury. Maywood Police and Rochelle Park Police officers aided in the capture of the suspects who had fled the crashed Mercedes.

New Jersey “worked tirelessly” for months to persuade Mercedes-Benz USA to stay in Montvale, the car company said Tuesday, including several meetings and calls between Governor Christie and company CEO Stephen Cannon and a last-ditch offer three days ago.

The state wielded an arsenal of incentive programs that were revamped just over a year ago to enable New Jersey to award more generous tax breaks that would counter the high cost of doing business in the state.

Yet the state’s effort fell short, rebuffed by the reality that even the heavily fortified programs – which enabled New Jersey in 2014 to award about $2 billion in breaks – couldn’t negate the high cost of doing business in the state, and the lure of Atlanta, where the company said Tuesday it will move its heaN.J.’s incentives to Mercedes couldn’t offset cost of doing business

While critics immediately suggested that the German car giant’s departure announcement showed the redundancy of the state’s strategy of offering big-dollar tax breaks, state officials dismissed that suggestion.

Michael Drewniak, a spokes­man for Christie, said the governor “took a direct role in trying to keep Mercedes-Benz USA in New Jersey.”

Mercedes driver taken into custody after backing into retaining wall

Ridgewood NJ, The male driver of a 4-door Mercedes Benz sedan was taken into custody by several Ridgewood PD uniformed patrol officers late Monday afternoon after backing his vehicle into a retaining wall in front of the Kings Supermarket at 112 North Maple Avenue, Ridgewood.  No one was injured in the crash, which occurred at 4:15 PM.  A flatbed tow truck removed the vehicle from the scene.  Traffic was slowed in both directions on North Maple Avenue while police & the tow truck driver worked.  Police on location would not say why the driver was handcuffed and placed in the back of a police car.  However, the individual was observed staggering along the sidewalk after officers removed him from his vehicle.
