Ridgewood Symphony Orchestra to Perform Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto and Sibelius Symphony No. 2

Ridgewood NJ,  Award winning concert pianist Lisa Yui, will be featured with the Ridgewood Symphony Orchestra performing Beethoven’s enduringly popular Emperor  Concerto on Friday May 3 at 8:00 p.m., at the West Side Presbyterian Church in Ridgewood. Described as “a musical phenomenon” (Pianiste magazine), Yamaha Artist Lisa Yui has performed as soloist with prominent orchestras such as the Tokyo Symphony, Polish National Radio, Toronto Symphony, Edmonton Symphony, the Montreal Metropolitan Orchestra, and the Krakow State Philharmonic.

Pro Arte is pleased to present our “Water Night” program, with Songs of the Water including a medieval chant for Easter, “Vidi Aquam”, and Copland’s “At the River, and Songs of the Night including Brahms’ “Sehnsucht” and Barber’s “Sure on this Shining Night”.  Combining both inspirations will be a performance of Eric Whitacre’s magnificent “Water Night”.

Ridgewood NJ, Ars Musica Chorale continues its 53rd season with The Magic of Opera: choruses and arias from operas by Mozart, Verdi, Puccini, and Wagner, including The Magic Flute, Carmen, Roméo et Juliette, and the Triumphal March from Aida. The performance will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2018, at West Side Presbyterian Church, Ridgewood, New Jersey.

Imagine a performance of all your favorite opera arias and choruses performed in a single concert! Ars Musica’s 70 voices, together with our stellar vocal soloists, will take you on a dramatic, musical journey through the greatest opera numbers, featuring tales of love, death, dancing, drinking, abandonment, and celebration.

BFMS Music to the Ears

Ridgewood NJ, BFMS Choral ,Orchestra and Band have big news. Justine Kawash, BFMS Choral Director Grades 6-8 reports on the Region I auditions: Alexis Rosenfeld (Gr. 7, Alto) and Katarina Burton (Gr. 7, Alto) were selected as members of the Region I 2019 Chorus.

Carol Sharar, BFMS Orchestra Director, reports that five string players have won placement into the prestigious Region I Intermediate Orchestra for 2019. They are: Harin Jeong (Gr. 8, violin), Phillip Bang (Gr. 8, viola, 1st chair), Ania Skulskaia (Gr. 7, violin), Jenny Yang (Gr. 7, violin) and Jenny Jang (Gr. 7, violin), who in addition also won Silver in the Scholastic Writing Contest.

Jason Curcio, BFMS Director of Bands and the Jazz Machine, has announced the Region Band selectees for 2019: Annie Skulskaia (Gr. 7, flute), Seung He Rhew (Gr. 8, clarinet,) Jennifer Lee (Gr. 7, clarinet), Eojin Kikm (Gr. 8, clarinet) and Joelle Yoon (Gr. 7, trombone).

Ridgewood Symphony Orchestra to Perform Appalachian Spring and Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto

Ridgewood NJ, Piano prodigy Drew Petersen will be featured with the Ridgewood Symphony Orchestra on Friday November 16th at 8:00 p.m., at the West Side Presbyterian Church in Ridgewood. An Oradell native, Drew most recently won the American Pianists Award following a rigorous 13-month competition. He is also a prizewinner in the Leeds International Piano Competition and has performed solo and concerto recitals in both Europe and the United States.

Ridgewood Teen Wins $25,000 Davidson Fellows Scholarship

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood teen Deena Shefter has been awarded a $25,000 Davidson Fellows Scholarship. Shefter attended Bergen County Academies (BCA),  a STEM-focused magnet high school in Bergen County , she is a member of the National Honor Society and the National Spanish Honor Society. Her research investigates the connection between multiple sclerosis and osteoporosis .
