Certain classical compositions, if matched with human body’s rhythm, can be therapeutically used to keep the heart under control. The Oxford University study states, “listening to music with a repeated 10-second rhythm coincided with a fall in blood pressure, reducing the heart rate” and thus can be used for overcoming hypertension.

Each show begins around 8:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted, in the band shell at Veteran’s Field. Bring a chair or blanket, but don’t cross the baseball field if a game is in progress.
Ridgewood NJ, Pro Arte’s final concert of the season, Baroque Splendor, will feature three masterpieces of the Baroque era, two of which are seldom performed. The first part of the program will showcase music of J.S. Bach and Jan Dismas Zelenka, two composers whose lives were intricately link, and the second part will feature C.P.E. Bach’s thrilling Magnificat. You don’t want to miss this beautiful closing concert of our 2018-2019 season under the direction of Maestro Bryan Zaros, with soloists and orchestra! Ridgewood NJ, The New Jersey State Children’s Chorus (NJSCC) presents “Dance and Sing Around the World ” at 4 pm on Sunday, June 9 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 155 Linwood Ave., Ridgewood. Admission is $10/under 18 admitted free. Tickets are on sale at www.njstatechildrenschorus.orgor may be purchased at the door.
The concert will feature a selection of folk songs from the United States, Japan, and Africa as well as several classical pieces representing the great music of Europe. From America, the children will sing the perennial favorites “She’ll Be Comin’ Round the Mountain,” “Skip to My Lou,” “Old Joe Clark,” and the beautiful “Shenandoah.” Africa is represented by the traditional Swahili proverbs “Bora Maisha” (Life is the Best Gift), and “Ghana Alleluia,” a mixture of the traditional and Christian influences of the Ewe people. The children will visit Asia with “Sakura,” a folk song about cherry blossoms sung in the original Japanese. A visit to Europe finds the choirs singing the “Evening Prayer” (Abendsegen) from Englebert Humperdinck’s 19th century fairy-tale opera, “Hansel and Gretel,” based on the folk tale published by the Brothers Grimm. To complete the European experience, Artistic Director and Conductor James Kennerley has arranged one of Johann Sebastian Bach’s most famous chorales, “Jesu Bleibet Meine Freude,” perhaps best known as “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring.”

Ridgewood NJ, Award winning concert pianist Lisa Yui, will be featured with the Ridgewood Symphony Orchestra performing Beethoven’s enduringly popular Emperor Concerto on Friday May 3 at 8:00 p.m., at the West Side Presbyterian Church in Ridgewood. Described as “a musical phenomenon” (Pianiste magazine), Yamaha Artist Lisa Yui has performed as soloist with prominent orchestras such as the Tokyo Symphony, Polish National Radio, Toronto Symphony, Edmonton Symphony, the Montreal Metropolitan Orchestra, and the Krakow State Philharmonic.
Ridgewood NJ, ‘Water’ and ‘Night’ have provided inspiration for countless composers over the centuries to create works of beauty. Pro Arte is pleased to present our “Water Night” program, with Songs of the Water including a medieval chant for Easter, “Vidi Aquam”, and Copland’s “At the River, and Songs of the Night including Brahms’ “Sehnsucht” and Barber’s “Sure on this Shining Night”. Combining both inspirations will be a performance of Eric Whitacre’s magnificent “Water Night”.
