Alleged Hillsdale Shoplifter Caught With Drug Paraphernalia after Police Chase

Hillsdale NJ, on Sunday, February 18th, 2024, at approximately 4:20 pm, Hillsdale Police Officers Marro #89 and Bruce #92 responded to the area of Hillsdale Avenue and Broadway for a male party, later identified as Daniel Margulies, who fled from the Walgreens in our jurisdiction with stolen goods. Both officers made initial contact with MARGULIES at the Hillsdale train station, but upon attempting to detain MARGULIES, MARGULIES fled from the officers.

No Injuries Reported ,2 Cats Rescued from House Fire in Westwood

Westwood NJ, on Thursday August 17th, just after 8am, the Westwood Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to Mountain Avenue for a reported house fire. Upon arrival of the first due units on scene it was confirmed that there was a fire with smoke coming from the front door. Command then called for a working fire assignment, which dispatches the River Vale Fire Department for a “fast team”. (A fast team is used in the fire service as a stand by crew ready to grab a downed firefighter at a fire scene in case the firefighter becomes injured or trapped).

Pedestrian Struck and Killed in Westwood by NJ Transit Train

Westwood NJ, a NJ Transit Pascack Valley Line passenger train headed to Spring Valley, struck and killed a pedestrian at the Jefferson Avenue grade crossing, Westwood on Monday morning, 09/12. No injuries were reported by the train crew or passengers on board. The victim was said to have been an elderly woman who was using a wheeled walker as she entered the crossing. She was pronounced dead at the scene by a hospital based paramedic team. Westwood Police, NJ Transit Police, and the Bergen County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the tragic incident.

Charges Filed as a result of an alleged assault at Westwood Regional High School

Westwood NJ, according to the Twp. of Washington and Westwood Police departments as a result of an alleged assault , which occurred at Westwood Regional High School a number of added security precautions have been put in place to enhance the security and safety of the school. The incident involving juveniles is under investigation including social media that was the nexus of the situation  .The Twp. of Washington and Westwood Police departments have consulted with the Bergen County prosecutor’s office and the appropriate charges have been filed . Details of the juvenile investigation remain confidential.

No Serious Injuries Reported following the late Saturday morning Crash in Twp of Washington NJ

Twp of Washington NJ, amazingly there were no serious injuries  reported following the late Saturday morning, 04/04, crash of a Jeep SUV into a utility pole at the intersection of Colonial Boulevard and Washington Avenue, Washington Township. Traffic was detoured around the crash site for hours to allow utility crews safe access to the work zone. Washington Township Police, Washington Township Fire Department, and Washington Township EMS responded to the incident scene. Westwood Police provided traffic control assistance.

Coffee Roaster Starts Fire at Caffe Anello in Westwood

Westwood NJ, at 10:35 hrs on Monday, December 2nd the Westwood fire department, was dispatched to Caffe Anello on Madison Ave. for the reported toaster fire. Within minutes, Westwood Police arrived on the scene confirming a fire inside the building upgrading the call to a working fire. Once on the scene, Engine 1 established a water supply and went inside to quickly knock down the fire. They were met inside the structure with truck 1 and engine 1-2’s crews for overhaul. The fire started above the drop ceiling caused by an industrial coffee roaster and had a very minor extension. Both Hillsdale Fire Department and Emerson Volunteer Fire Department offered assistance.

Weather permitting, The road resurfacing project on Old Hook Road will resume Monday 6/24/19 and go all week till Friday 6/28/19. Westwood Police Department urges you to plan and alternate route. Stolen Car Pursued by Multiply Police Departments in High Speed Chase Across Bergen

Twp. of Washington NJ, A vehicle reported stolen from Hillsdale early Thursday evening, 12/27, was spotted by a Ho-Ho-Kus Police patrol officer within minutes after a radio broadcast reporting the theft. A high speed pursuit ensued into Washington Township where the vehicle crashed into a utility pole at the intersection of Clinton Avenue and Washington Avenue. Following a short foot pursuit, one (1) individual who had fled from the crashed vehicle was apprehended in the rear of 639 Clinton Avenue, Washington Township. The suspect was transported by a Westwood EMS ambulance to New Bridge Medical Center for treatment of a non life threatening laceration to the head. Officers from Hillsdale Police, Paramus Police, Ridgewood Police, Westwood Police, and Washington Township Police were observed assisting Ho-Ho-Kus Police at the scene. The wrecked vehicle, a 4-door Honda Accord, was removed from the scene by a flatbed tow truck. The car had reportedly been left running with the keys in the ignition.

79-year-old woman was struck and injured crossing Kinderkamack Road and Irvington Street Wednesday afternoon in Westwood

Westwood NJ, according to the Westwood Police a 79-year-old woman was struck and injured crossing Kinderkamack Road and Irvington Street Wednesday afternoon.

Westwood Police were summed to the scene at 12:08 p.m. The victim began crossing Kinderkamack Road when Patricia Shaw, 76, of Midland Park turned left from Irvington Street onto Kinderkamack Road. Westwood Police were assisted by Hillsdale Police , Westwood Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and Micron Advanced Life Support .

According to police the victim was walking in southbound lane when the driver failed to yield and hit her with the front driver’s-side part of the vehicle.

The woman was knocked to the ground and injured on the lower part of her body. She was stabilized at the scene and rushed to Valley Hospital in Ridgewood. The extent of her injuries is unknown.

The 76 year old driver failed to yield the right of way to a pedestrian and was charged with failure to stop/yield at an intersection, making an improper turn, failure to maintain a lane and failure to yield to a pedestrian.

Westwood Police will also submit a re-evaluation to the state Division of Motor Vehicles regarding Shaw to determine if she is fit to operate a motor vehicle.

The Westwood Police Department is asking for the public’s cooperation in reducing the number of accidents involving pedestrians and bicycles in the borough.

Westwood NJ, A pedestrian was struck by a motor vehicle at the intersection of Broadway and Irvington Street, Westwood on Tuesday morning, 02/06. The victim was seriously injured and transported by ambulance to a local hospital. Westwood Police responded along with a BLS ambulance from Hackensack University Medical Center North and an ALS unit from The Valley Hospital.
