  1. This is what we call an indicator event.
Its sucess or failure will tell you much about the makeup of the town.

  2. What street

  3. 22 Oak Street

  4. It’s not an indicator event. As a longtime vegetarian/vegan, I can tell you that most of those restaurants cook with way too much salt, oils and sugars.

As one who has lived by the tenets of the 1971 book , Diet For a Small Planet by Lappe, I can tell you that people who eat vegetarian/vegan will always be in the minority, but there will always be a percentage who eat as we do. Many of us can get a good vegan meal in excellent top rated Italian restaurants with pasta and veggies and legumes. Those restaurants that label themselves vegetarian and vegan are often mediocre and unhealthy as I have said. As one who has lived by the tenets of the book Diet for a Small Planet since 1971, we spend very little in the physician’s office. And we have a good conscience, to boot.

As the NYT recently wrote, both paper and plastic bags have their drawback; what is most important for the health of life on this planet is what you choose to by at the supermarket. In Oregon mass composting is the norm. The towns pick up food scraps from individuals homes, like they recycle here, and composts on mass scale. Praise the Lord who gaveth us our home, this planet we have named Mother Earth.

    1) It is an indicator event.
    2) Your comments just prove that you are missing the point.

  6. What is the point? I thought the point was if that kind of restaurant closes it means there are not enough vegetarians/vegans to support it.

  7. I see your misunderstanding.
I don’t want to promote nor disparage the restaurant since I think it should (and will) fly or die on its own, so I will speak generally.
    .
It is an indicator event since it is not a mainstream entity so its success or failure potentially provides more insight to the larger community. If it were a mainstream entity such as a deli or a diner or a steak house or Italian restaurant (or even a clothing store or drug store or other non-food mainstream entity) its success or failure would be confined to its own merit and have little to no valuable data to share about the larger community.
    .
Your comments inferring its success or failure based on the quality of its food are more appropriate to a mainstream entity such as a pizzeria. That is what I meant by you are missing the point.
For example, the vegan restaurant could have great food and fail since the community may largely reject veganism or it could have lousy food, but be wildly successful since the community may largely embrace veganism as a trend or novelty regardless of quality. This gives insight into the larger community. The same can data analysis generally can not be gained from a mainstream entities success or failure.
