Reader asks IF Ridgewood wants to be more “Bee Friendly” then why can’t we just adopt our own agenda and implement all or none of it on our own pace and schedule?

If we want to support pollination of Bees, then why do we have to:
.
a) join an organization (Bee City USA),
b) PAY Annual Fees
c) make financial, time and resource commitments (including land)
d) annually send reports to Bee City USA (which requires allocating time resources and personnel)
e) commit to creating and maintain a National Pollinator Week celebration (again requiring time, resources and personnel)
f) create and maintain Bee City publicity and promotion including maintaining a web page/site and actual physical signage in the village
g) create and maintain a “comprehensive Bee Plan” with restrictions/requirements on type and quantity of plants, minimal use of pesticides, tracking of pollinators, leaving acerage undisturbed (unmowed, non-removal of dead or fallen trees, non-removal of leaves, etc) and more restrictions/requirements
f) BE REQUIRED TO REPORT OUR COMPLIANCE AND PROGRESS (increase of bee acreage) to an outside organization annually (Bee City USA).
.
.
WHY do we need to be bound to all of these items?
.
IF Ridgewood wants to be more “Bee Friendly” then why can’t we just adopt our own agenda and implement all or none of it on our own pace and schedule?
.
WHY the need to tie ourselves (via legal resolution) to a 3rd party organization and be bound and committed to a series of restrictions and requirements that MAY or MAY NOT be beneficial to Ridgewood?

  1. Very True. I guess the town gets some Sustainability points, which translates into grants, money, for projects, not sure. But is more money spent on belonging to that bee organization. And I am still wonderin how safe walkin through Twinney Pond will BE with all those BEEs. The council doesn’t CARE. REMEMBER, schools nearby take nature walks at Twinney Pond. Hey, it’s no skin off my ass, I am a senior bitch. I am not self interested here.

But I sure do know that artificial turf like that on Maple Field, is NOT SUSTAINABLE. No life can survive on artificial turf and we tax payers are footing the bill for artificial turf replacement on Maple Field. I thought Hache was better than that when I voted for him, HEY, I was wrong. Hache pushed the artificial turf. The whole council is a bunch of bozos with no sincere interest in the environemtn. How can they tawk about being sustainable with artificial turf. How can they tawk about being sustainable and tear down the beautiful and vital saftey islands at the train station. Its a frickin joke to have a seminar on pedestrian Ridgewood and different tours, when they plan to tear down the islands at the train station. YOU KNOW WHAT, that whole pedestrian thing that the town commerce , the stores , are so interested in , is all about you people walkin to their stores and buying crap. Take a walk , folks, away from the CBD.

  2. the town just get feel good “hashtag activism” points… but at the expense of the residents.

  3. Sounds like an Algore scheme involving profiting over naturally occurring climate change and paying for carbon credits by the ignorant.

  4. If they want bees, fine, but locate them in a less traveled place. And don’t spend a fortune on memberships and dues when a qualified bee keeper will know what needs to be done. I assume you are planning to have a qualified bee keeper to handle the details and the on-going care of the bees? They just can’t be dumped at a location and left to take care of themselves.
