Reader says Cats are horrible, brutal creatures

Cats are horrible, brutal creatures. We had one kill a nest of baby bunnies – just killed them – didn’t even eat them. Later it caught the mama rabbit and buried her headless body by the foundation of our home. Disgusting as it is sad. To add insult to murder this cat is pooping by our foundation. We’ve seen it and chased it off, but it keeps coming back. It killed at least two whole nests of baby birds . . . just heartbreaking.

Free roaming cats are responsible for the extinction of 33 bird species. Free roaming cats kill over 480 million birds a year. No matter how well fed they are, cats still kill wildlife at an alarming rate. Free roaming cats also spread toxoplasmosis a parasite that poses a threat not just to other animals but to preganant women as well.

Please, cat owners, be responsible for your cats. Keep them indoors and on a leash when outdoors. Don’t let them roam free to senselessly kill and spread diseases. We do this for our dogs. It’s time to do this for our cats as well.

Oh my–cats hunting and surviving like nature intended! How offensive! …not
This person needs to leave their house and get a dose of reality instead of being offended by the natural process of survival of the fittest. Get a grip! Go volunteer someplace, visit the elderly, go window shopping, take some meds… pathetic.

We live by Grove Park and have seen an influx of cats. We think they are being abandoned which is a crime?

Did you even read my post?
The cats are just killling – NOT for eating or surviving – they are just killing for the sake of killing.
480 million birds killed by cats a year in the U.S. alone. That’s alot of birds. 33 species of birds have been driven to EXTINCTION by free roaming cats. And the amount of wildlife cats kill simply can’t be estimated.
In England and Australia they are begging cat owners to please keep their cats under control as rare wild animals and birds are being lost there, too, and are on the verge of extinction.
Your comment was hurtful about me needing a life. I do work – a lot. After coming home from work, I’ve had to clean up dead, mutilated bodies of little animals and birds. I’ve seen more cats than ever (my neighbors have, too), I’ve caught cats in the act and chased them off.
I suffer insomnia, not that you care, and have seen free roaming cats at all hours in all weather in all seasons. IF these are pet cats, the owners are cruelly neglecting them.
Please don’t judge me so harshly. My experience is much different than yours. Believe it or not, I love INDOOR cats very much! All I am asking is for you to step into my shoes for a moment and ask yourself –
If my dog did what your cat did, pooped by your foundation, killed animals and birds that you love and just for the hell of it and left the bodies for you to bury, yowled in the middle of the night, FOR YEARS – how would you feel?

I don’t know why sweet, gentle housekitties suddenly turn into heartless killing machines when allowed outside.
