suicide bike lane

Painting over the green bicycle lanes and arrows is essential, but not enough. Two lanes in each direction on the west side of Franklin Ave. underpass MUST BE REINSTATED. They were needed when it was built a zillion years ago and far more now and even more in the future. Rip out the new wider median with the lampposts (a narrower one can be safe if built a little higher; it worked fine for decades) and put back the four lanes NOW or we are DOOMED. Waste of money? Yep. Shouldn’t have happened in the first place. Everybody warned that it would be a disaster. Aronsohn pushed it through. He’d be even more thrilled if it were replaced–more construction contracts. Nevertheless, gotta happen, and if they wait until the construction is in high gear it will be impossible to close that area for the time needed to fix it. PUH-LEASE, Council, just DO it. Send the bill to Aronsohn and Pucciarelli.

  1. Portions of the bike lane were recently painted over. Check it out.

  2. I approve this message.

  3. agreed…..

  4. 719, they paved over the green (50′ or so at each end) and then RE-PAINTED the bike lane stripes! A pink elephant is still an elephant.

  5. Ridgewood averages about 22 pedestrians and bicyclists hit by motor vehicles per year, mostly pedestrians in the CBD. Here is what NYC did about traffic injuries:

  6. I’m confused, too much going on at the Trestle

  7. Agree with everything! They said the bike lane would “calm traffic” which never made sense but now we see the results of this boondoggle and calming would be the last word I would use to describe the loss of lanes and a bike lane to nowhere and where bikers are rarely seen!

  8. I agree but it seems the new council will be in the same place soon. They disregard residents. It is a shame I feel as if the new mayor is the new Paul. What out Ridgewood.
