The school crossing at Linwood towards BF NEEDS an additional Crossing Guard
during rush hours morning and afternoon.Thats an intersection
that needs a wider right turning lane from BF street up Linwood towards town.Left turns there are also very tight. That corner needs a review.Current crossing Guard does a great job but is outgunned..

  1. There is a stop light there! 13 year olds need a crossing guard at a corner that has a traffic light? Not only that but now they need 2 crossing guards and a stop light?

  2. The guard in the photo is at Glen and Van Dien by BF. Not the corner under discussion. This is Rosanne. She is the BEST. EVER.

    1. sorry just a file photo by a blog favorite

  3. A big problem is that you can make a right hand turn all day at the intersection of Van Dien and Linwood. I have asked many times ( Bd of Ed, CSAC, Police Dept.) to at least follow what every other traveled school intersection has in place: No righ turn between 8 and 4PM.

  4. Have a police car hang around Glen instead if Van Neste during the dropoff and pickup periods. The moving violations revenue should be a bundle. People drive like maniacs on E. Glen, including those dropping off and picking up..

  5. Sorry, this is going to be unpleasant but it is the truth.

Two guards are not needed. One FIT guard is needed. I sometimes drive by that area around school time and I see a lady, out of breath from just lifting and waving the stop sign, haplessly waddling around.

This is not an attack on anyone. Certain people in certain jobs need to have the physical ability to do the job. We can not have out of shape and unfit firefighters for example, no matter how nice, dedicated, motivated etc etc the individuals might be.

Fit, in this case, does not mean a 30yr old with ripped abs and capable of 8 minute mile. It means someone who is active, can walk around briskly and does not get out of breath and flustered from standing and waving a sign for 1 hour.

    Just one person, not two.

  6. 9:51, which corner and guard are you referring to?

  7. As a member of the Citizens Safety board, I can tell you we and the police and the town are well aware of how dangerous that particular corner is. Additionally, I was the safety chairperson for BF for a long time. Roseanne is a dedicated employee and has literally risked her life many times crossing those kids. People drive through there in criminal fashion – speeding and flagrantly ignoring her. Speeding cars cut it so close and fast they have even clipped her STOP sign while it’s in her hand! I’ve stood there in the morning observing and she does not haplessly waddle, nor does the job render her out of breath.
If anything, it is HER corner that is dangerous enough to warrant extra manpower. True accidents do happen, and it’s tragic, but I often wonder about the people who drive that carelessly. I wonder if they think about the fact that their desperate need to pick a few seconds or minutes to get where they are going could result in the the knowledge – for the rest of their lives- that they killed another human being.
