The Ridgewood Board of Education unanimously approved the 2012-13 preliminary budget, a spending plan that, if passed by voters in April, would increase the local school tax bill by $195.70 for the average assessed home of $794,531. The proposed $90.6 million budget will now be submitted to the executive county superintendent for review.

The April ballot will ask Ridgewood’s registered voters to approve or reject an $82,949,642 general fund tax levy.

Schools Superintendent Daniel Fishbein said the budget is still a work in progress and that changes can be made within the plan. In all likelihood, any future changes would not impact the total budget.

“Adjustments can’t make the budget grow; they must work within the budget,” Fishbein said. “Unlike the federal government, we have a balanced budget.”
