Ridgewood Police Nab Shoplifting Suspect After Dangerous Foot Chase

Ridgewood NJ, At approximately 12:30 PM on Friday, Ridgewood police officers were dispatched to the Stop and Shop supermarket at 175 Franklin Avenue in response to a 911 telephone call reporting a shoplifter in the store’s 2nd floor liquor department.
The male suspect fled the store in conjunction with the arrival of police officers, and was immediately pursued on foot across 2 traffic lanes of busy Franklin Avenue. The individual was quickly apprehended, handcuffed, and taken into custody. However, during the foot chase, the suspect sustained a serious leg injury.
Ridgewood EMS personnel responded via ambulance and transported the individual to Bergen Regional Medical Center in Paramus for treatment. Criminal charges against the suspect are currently pending. Primary investigating officer is Ridgewood Patrol Officer Raymond Tarino.
