Ridgewood seeks to improve lengthy permit process for business owners

After renting a storefront, it took nine months for Paul McManaman to open Muscle Maker Grill in Ridgewood. It took many months before Paul McManaman could open the doors to his Muscle Maker Grill in Ridgewood.
For five of those months, the first-time business owner was paying rent and not making money while he sought approval from the village’s building department to open, and for the Historic Preservation Commission’s approval of his sign.
In total, applying for a building permit and undergoing building inspections took about eight months, including four months to get the permit approved.
