Ridgewood’s Ban on Single Use Plastic Bags Starts in 2020

the staff of the Ridgewood blog’

Ridgewood NJ, Village of Ridgewood Mayor Ramon Hache statement on
the ordinance to ban single-use plastic bags :

“Two weeks ago, we introduced an ordinance to ban single-use plastic bags in the Village. This is a very important step in protecting the environment and would not have been possible without the collaboration between the Village Council, the Ridgewood Environmental Advisory Committee and Green Team. A special thank you to Councilman Sedon as Council liaison to these committees.
Although the ban will be adopted this summer, it will not go into effect until January 1, 2020. Over the next 6 months, we will have an educational and public awareness campaign to engage with our community and educate residents.”

  1. That’s excellent, now what about plastic garbage bags that the sanitation department picks up. Can I still use that.

This is a very important step in protecting the environment making Ridgewood a Virtue Signaling Leader and would not have been possible without the collaboration between the feckless> Village Council, the misguided and ill informed Ridgewood Environmental Advisory Committee and Green Team. A special thank you thanks for nothing to Councilman Sedon as Council liaison to these committees who has been a major disappointment in these matters. “

  5. The outlawing of plastic bags works very well in Ireland. The storekeepers keep a small amount on hand for those of us that don’t have a shopping bag, but you are charged money for them! If they are outlawed, besides the garbage bags, we have newspaper bags, and pooper scooper bags, bags to hold fish when it is purchased, etc. I do admit that I have no idea how Ireland handles these extra bags except for the paper fish is wrapped in when sold.

  6. Move to Ireland if you like it there so much….

No PLASTIC BAGS! They don’t break down; end up in the dump; kill dolphins and are bad for the environment.

    OK, We’ll use cloth.
No CLOTH BAGS! They require washing which increases the use of caustic chemicals in the detergents and are bad for the environment.

  13. The best is when people walk their dogs and use their newspaper bags to pick up the dog doo. Then they throw them in the water basin in the road , Real smart shit heads,

  14. Sedon is a member of those groups but he does nothing and can’t influence a fly. Shade tree committee is a joke also, tree wells downtown continue to die.
