Rutgers will raise tuition, fees for 2012-2013 school year

Rutgers will hike tuition and fees by 2.5 percent for the coming school year, bringing the total to $13,073 for the average undergraduate, according to the university.

The increases were approved Wednesday over the objections of student leaders who had called on the university’s Board of Governors to freeze tuition and fees at the state university.
New Jersey’s public colleges and universities have among the highest tuition in the nation – in part a consequence of stagnant state funding for higher education.
Charges for room and board will increase by 1.9 percent to an average of $10,970 under the measure approved by the governing board.
