StearClear Smartphone app helps drunk Bergen County residents get home safely

Ridgewood NJ, Worried you had one too many ,a new smartphone app is helping Bergen County residents get home safely in their own cars. StearClear, a Wyckoff based company is a designated driving service and smartphone app that drunk customers can turn to for a ride home.
Founders Matthew Elling and Mike Canger, both Bergen County residents who also run Ridgewood firm Mars Marketing, launched the first StearClear franchise in the Village of Ridgewood earlier this year. Their StearClear team of drivers has been giving people rides for over three months. The service has an initial pickup fee of $20, for a team of two people to show up at your location and then it’s $2.50 a mile after that.

Customers can use the free Android or iPhone app, which also calculates the cost of a pickup by using GPS. The two founders have talked to local bar owners and restaurant owners to tell them about StearClear and to offer to help them make sure their customers get home safely. Some of them have even posted signs advertising the company’s services.
The company has a team of 10 drivers posted throughout Bergen County. A few of them are on call each night, and customers can use the smartphone app to pick a driver.Each year there are more than 12,000 DUI-related deaths and 900,000 DUI/DWI arrests in the U.S.
