BF Spirit Night is a combination dance and recreation night, when students come to school and hang out, play games, dance (there used to be a DJ when my kids were there), etc. Spirit Night has been going on for years, usually once in the Fall and once in the Spring.

BF Spirit Night has no affiliation with today (coincidentally) being "National Spirit Day" which is a national day against bullying on which participants wear purple to show support for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth. (You will notice this accurate definition from the sponsor's website is slightly different than yours.)

Also coincidentally, BF students were encouraged to wear pink today for breast cancer awareness (October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month)

It seems there may have been some confusion between the various colors and use of the word "spirit."

And that is seriously what is going on: AKA nothing nefarious.

Can someone please explain what the BF Spirit Night is all about?

From what I'm reading on the internet, October 19 is Spirit day, which has something to do with anti-bullying, but seems to be primarily about publicly supporting alternative lifestyles, including a heavy emphasis on approval for the homosexual lifestyle.

Were the kids supposed to wear pink for breast cancer awareness, or purple to show approval for homosexuality?

Seriously, what is going on here?
