“the Fly” has learned that Money continues to grow on trees in Ridgewood

….the fly has learned that a proprietor of a food establishment frequented by Ridgewood High School students during lunch periods (who wishes to remain anonymous) is reporting that employees of the business find a large number of discarded coins (several dollars worth) in their trash receptacles on a daily basis (yes, DAILY).

Seemingly, the youths of Ridgewood can’t be bothered carrying around loose change, so they just throw it away.

I wonder if behavior like this is being learned at home.

Only in Ridgewood . . .

  1. Here’s a suggestion – Put either a “tips” jar or “donations to charity” jar on the counter and see if that reduces the number of coins in the trash.

  2. I can’t believe someone would post this nonsense. Kids are not adults,- which means poor decisions- it happens everywhere regardless of the town you live in. I love when people bash the own town- just makes you look bad and guilty of judgement. The very thing you are complaining about in this post (except you ARE an adult).

  3. Good idea. Go for it, store owner. Or scholarships or something else. “See a penny and pick it up and all the day you’ll have good luck.”

  4. Betty: Believe me when I tell you that this is not happening “regardless of the town you live in.”

  5. Betty, are you nuts? These kids are being given far too much money if they can just toss coins away. This is horrible.

  6. Really Betty? People are throwing money in the trash in all towns? What planet do you live on?

  7. Betty = apologist and enabler.

  8. My kids went through RPS. Each had a coin collection jar in their room to place any “extra” coins into. When they were near full, we would go over to Valley National Bank, put each kids.jar through the coin sorter and see how much they each had. They would then deposit the money into their Kids.Clib accounts. They put away hundreds of dollars this way.

  9. Oh Betty, so kids make poor decisions and adults do not. Right.

  10. Geez Betty, those poor kids who have to walk around with that bourgeois cash probably have low self esteem because their parents didn’t give them a platinum card to charge their lunch. The horrors!
