Uber Driver Charged with Sexual Assault in Bergen County

Alpine NJ, Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Dennis Calo announced the arrest of DEARAN BENNETT (DOB: 09/12/1983; single; Uber Driver) of Brooklyn, New York, on charges of Sexual Assault.  The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti and the Alpine Police Department under the direction of Chief Christopher Belcolle.

On Friday, June 1, 2018, the Alpine Police responded to a 911 call of a reported sexual assault.  Upon responding, it was reported that an adult female had just been sexually assaulted by her Uber Driver.  As a result of an investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Alpine Police Department, Dearan BENNETT was arrested on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 and charged with one count of Sexual Assault, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2c(1), a crime of the 2nd degree.  Following his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack on Wednesday, February 27, 2019, BENNETT was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a detention hearing on Monday, March 4, 2019.

Acting Prosecutor Calo states that the charge is merely an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and would also like to thank the Alpine Police Department for its assistance in this investigation.
