Ridgewood NJ, the Zabriskie-Schedler House Stabilization Project Phase 1 was approved by the Village Council by a 4-1 vote .

Councilmen Voigt brought up some objections , looking for a long term plan for use the of the residence and not wanting the Village involved in another “money pit” situation.

THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION, NUMBERED 17-142 IS TO BE ADOPTED BY A CONSENT AGENDA, WITH ONE VOTE BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL. THERE IS A BRIEF DESCRIPTION BESIDE THIS RESOLUTION TO BE CONSIDERED ON THE CONSENT AGENDA. THIS RESOLUTION WILL BE READ BY TITLE ONLY:

17-56 Award Professional Services Contract – Professional Historic Architectural Consultant – Zabriskie-Schedler House Stabilization Project (Phase I)(NTE $50,000) –

This resolution authorizes the hiring of Connolly & Hickey Historical Architects to document the current conditions of the site, restore and stabilize roof, prepare and present nomination to New Jersey and National Register Nomination, and provide assistance for preparation of 2017 Bergen County HPTF Application.

  2. Has anyone from the historical committee actually been inside that house to determine if any part of it is historical? Why stabilize or fix it if someone hasn’t already shown that it is actually the original house and not a rebuilt? We have so many properly restored and truly historical properties in the Village. Why spend $50,000 to find out it may only be a piece of junk? And why spend $50,000 to repair something that may actually only be a little bit historical and a lot of add-ons?

  4. Voight and his stooges are dead wrong. House and property were deemed historical years ago. House is on the NJ Historical Preservation list. All you have to do is read. Everything is recorded and archived; look it up. “Mayor’s Father Act” is slanderous statement and a bunch of BS. The Mayor as well as any other public official have the fiduciary obligation to historically preserve American History…its called ETHICS. Stop bullying Mayor Knudsen. When the previous Council majority and Roberta Sonenfeld wanted to turn it into a sports complex, for the RBSA, it was approximately 10 million dollars (all taxpayer’s dollars). That was absurd! Thank God that FRAUD was stopped.

  7. 5:18 Did you review the scope/cost of the project? It’s not a money pit. Additionally, the fact that the Village is finalizing Historical registration means grants will fund most if not all costs. If only people knew the facts.

  8. then why was this not done years a go. I don’t think so. this could of been repaired years a go. and so much cheeper . the place would need a good 300,grand to repair. in the end it will be a money pit for the tax people. what about the service of the home and land. come on ,

  9. All these comments that it is already known as of historical value. BUT the only paperwork to prove that clearly stated that it would be necessary to GO INSIDE the building to determine if the center portion was truly historical. It stated that ceiling beams and basement work would show if the small middle section was actually historic. Again I ask, has this been done? This is like the children’s game of “Gossip”.
    Someone starts by saying it’s been proven historic and that rumor spreads and spreads and gets more distorted with every addition. Has someone in authority actually entered the building and checked the ceiling and the basement? That certainly shouldn’t cost $50,000 and should certainly precede any money being spent on something that could actually have absolutely no historical value! The document being shown as proof of authenticity clearly states that no true determination could be made without actually being in the building. Why is this essential step being overlooked? I’ve asked for this proof for several months and the best response I have received is that “I’m sure it has been done. I’ll check and let you know.”

  10. may be the land is. if it is historical home , then why did it take so long to come out. and I never seen an big sign saying this land is a special place . we need more info.
