Ridgewood NJ, the Village of Ridgewood hosted it’s annual Memorial Day Service at Van Nest square. The service featured the Ridgewood High School wind ensemble . It is a wonderful tradition hosted by the Village and American Legion Post 53.

The question we ask is why is it excluded every year from the Village of Ridgewood’s website ? This year not a single mention.

Memorial Day is an American holiday, observed on the last Monday of May, honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Without those sacrifices many of the inane issues we argue about every day would not exist .

The Village website lists such significant issues as:Assistance with Canada Geese Nests on Your Property Through the Use of GeesePeace, Annual Wellness/Weight Loss Challenge, and Recycle Coach but again not a single mention of Memorial day.

  1. Too many Dems. LOL

  2. Because pols bend over backwards to pander to individuals instead of the village residents as a whole. Sad but true these days.

  3. To the CBS’s Mary Calvi. Otis Livingston and Cindy Hsu was talking about Mary Calvi’s private life they set you up!

  4. Really, what can I say. About Memorial Day services.

I can’t help it ; but I care very much about veterans coming back from wars, since Vietnam war, when I was old enough to be aware of those soldiers (all military divisions) and how people and the govt. don’t give a crap about them.

What in the hell is wrong with honoring the LIVING veterans and taking care of them. Taking care of them as if they were a beloved member of your family.

It’s so goddamn easy to attend a Memorial Day Service and then feel good about yourself, isn’t it.

How about reviving the draft for women as well as men. I was around when there was a draft. Then Memorial Day would mean something. We all would UNDERSTAND the meaning of service to our country, USA.

  5. And who do we see in the background of the posted photo? Why it’s former Mayor Paul “unzip my fly please Gwenn” Aronsohn. On the phone as usual. Perhaps informing his wife that he’d be late for dinner. Hmm. Wonder why Paulie?

  6. “What in the hell is wrong with honoring the LIVING veterans …”
    .
It’s called “Veterans Day” (November 11th)
Honors all veterans, living and dead.
    .

  7. Original poster: you might send an email message to the village manager asking for this to be included in next year’s calendar, which is prepared in the fall. hmailander@ridgewoodnj.net. She has the authority to make it happen. A cc: to at least the mayor (rhache@ridgewoodnj.net) would be wise and you could throw in the rest of the council as well. (msedon@ridgewoodnj.net, sknudsen@ridgewoodnj.net, bwalsh@ridgewoodnj.net, jvoigt@ridgewoodnj.net).

In addition, you might make a statement during the public comment period at any village council meeting. Hard to believe you’d get a “No.” Probably a sin of omission rather than commission by the redoubtable Janet Fricke, who despite hundreds of howling errors over the years is always given the assignment of putting the calendar together.
