Village owned street trees : Readers are still unclear over who is responsible for what?
PJ – the town took my neighbor’s tree down 2 years ago but they forgot to come back and grind the stump…..I think you’ll agree that this is an eyesore.
The stump has since been taken care of , but readers are still unclear over who is responsible for what?
It looks better…although one day it will be replaced and the Shade Comm-n will need to grind the stump to ground level and then remove the roots. Maple trees typically have a very disruptive root system.
the Ridgewood Department of Parks and Recreation Department Information
The Division of Parks is responsible for the maintenance of all Village owned parkland, athletic facilities, planting of flowerbeds (in cooperation with Project Pride) and landscaping throughout the community. In addition, the division is responsible for the preparation and maintenance of the Graydon Pool facility and grounds as well as all departmental special events throughout the year.
The Shade Tree Division is responsible for the maintenance and care of approximately 15, 000 Village owned street trees on 100 miles of public ways, as well as additional trees and shrubs in parks and on other public grounds. This includes all aspects, such as removal, planting, and pruning. The Shade Tree Division does a tree planting for Arbor Day, which is usually the last Friday in April. The division currently offers a memorial tree/bench program to honor the memory of a friend or family member.
Residents are responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair of sidewalks, aprons and curbs adjacent to their property. If there is a hazardous condition that needs to be corrected, please contact the Engineering Office (201/670-5500 x238) at Village Hall to file a report and/or to obtain a permit before any work begins. Tree roots are often the cause of raised sidewalks. The Village’s inspection of the site will help to ensure that proper steps are taken to remedy the hazard. (Village Code: Chapter 249; Section 24)
