Ridgewood NJ, as the Ridgewood blog reported earlier today the Ridgewood Police, Fire Department , and Emergency Services personnel responded to assist at a medical transport helicopter landing on Wednesday, 12/13 at Veterans Field.
At Wednesdays council meeting resident Boyd Loving stated that lately these “courtesy transfers ”  from Valley Hospital  seem to be a frequent reoccurring event . He made the point that the use of Village services for courtesy transfers should not be paid for by Village taxpayers . Significant Village resources are being deployed and occupied by these transfers .
Loving stated that the Village should pass an ordinance requiring Valley to pay for the use of Village assets with the transport of patients outbound from The Valley Hospital to other facilities.

  1. Why should Valley Hospital pay for patients to be transported out of Valley Hospital?
Give the guy on the stretcher the bill. (sarcasm)
Lighten up Boyd, you could be that guy some day.

  2. A real emergency would be transferring an accident victim who got injured in town to a trauma center during the critical “golden hour ” after injury.
This may be a medically necessary transport, but it’s more of a convenience to the patient vs a private ambulance ride to teterboro . The patients insurance company gets billed for the helicopter at a huge price. So if it’s not an emergency then Ridgewood should charge a “landing fee” just like th NYC heliports or teterboro does.
I am a long time village resident, and if I can’t land here in my Bell Jetranger then nobody else should unless it’s an emergency.
Other th an teterboro I beleive there is a licensed heliport at th mahwah crossroads hotel. There also is one that is no longer used, but licensed at the old United jersey bank parking lot at rt 17 south at the garden state parkway . I think it’s a golf store there now

  3. Hold on everyone we all pay for the helicopter I believe we are all charged two dollars gas two dollars either in your registration for your license something like that was orchestrated a few years back yes we all pay Which is a very good thing to have around believe me

  4. No no 10:58 the price is included in the Park Mobile bill

  5. Ambulances charge but Valley expects all Ridgewood services supplied to them should be free. How many police and ambulance calls have our police, emt’s, volunteers and fire people (what is the correct name now there is a woman on the force?) made to Valley just in the last year? Were they paid for their time by Valley (who can then charge the patient’s insurance) or by Ridgewood?
I like the idea of a landing fee. Use of the field by our residents is usually restricted up to an hour “to clear the field”. If a helicopter cannot land or take-off w/o a full supporting staff, someone besides Ridgewood should be paying for it. We don’t benefit in any way by them using our field so it should be charged to someone.

  6. Wow We should not debate this too long as Valley will be moving in a few years

What we should ensure is that the multiple apartments building that will be built at the valley site with the required low income housing requirements include a on site ambulance , fire, and security That will solve the housing issue and complaints about village services use

  7. First off every hospital in the state has the helicopters land “on site” without the over zealous assistance of ANY municipal services. But, this is Ridgewood and the unionized over paid and pensioned PD/FD et at al need to justify their existence so they stand around vets while a professional flight crew does their job. There is most certainly a 100 x 100 FAA minimum available on the roof of the main building to get the job done. There is no difference in approach to either location. Give Valley the permit and you can all stop your bitching and just maybe help one of your neighbors when they really needs it.

  8. Ridgewood Fire Dept charges Ridgewood residents (taxpayers) $500 + mileage for a short ambulance ride to Valley from our homes.

So why should Valley get these services for free?

  9. Anonymous December 14, 2017 at 7:01 pm, If you don’t like the Paid Professional Firefighters the solution is quite easy, step up and become a volunteer……I will not hold my breath waiting for that to happen. What an Asswipe you are. .

  10. Thank you Village firefighter and Union member 7:48.
    That’s pretty obvious.
Volunteers are not welcome in any of the “professional” areas of the municipal government…you know it and I know it. The system is designed to protect the home turf from such interlopers and we know you boys don’t want the boat to be rocked. Not good for business. The days of the wealthy ever absent homeowners in Ridgewood over paying and over pensioning you guys is over. We’re hip to the scam. You guys kept taking and taking with both hands. And to add insult to injury one of your pals over at VH walked out the front door with a shitload of quarters! Party’s over pal. Like any other business that runs a scam it WILL end and then we simply sub contract out the work. The only thing the “professional” firefighters in Ridgewood are good at is gaming the system…and saving basements.

  11. Ok Anonymous December 16, 2017 at 1:13 pm, lets breakdown your comment ……

    1) Thank you Village firefighter and Union member 7:48.
    .
Sorry, neither a Firefighter or Union member, nice try though.
    .
    2) Volunteers are not welcome in any of the “professional” areas of the municipal government…you know it and I know it.
    .
Your statement above is the result of one of two things: A) you are amazingly ignorant about the Village or B) you are a bold face liar. My money is on B.
    .
    3) The days of the wealthy ever absent homeowners in Ridgewood over paying and over pensioning you guys is over.
    .
I suspect you have neither the power nor the ability to change anything. Oh sure you can sit behind your computer and complain Anonymously about the things going on in the Village, but the fact is when it comes to changing anything or doing anything you are completely impotent.
    .
    4) And to add insult to injury one of your pals over at VH walked out the front door with a shitload of quarters!

I am not sure what this has to do with our firefighters. But I am glad you got that off your chest.
    .
    5) The only thing the “professional” firefighters in Ridgewood are good at is gaming the system…and saving basements.
    .
Our Firefighters, both career and volunteer, are dedicated, knowledgeable and well trained employees. Your hate filled comment is likely due to jealously and envy of our fine firefighters. I hope someday you can let go of your jealously and envy of others and rid yourself of being a hate monger and an ass wipe.

  12. Anonymous at 8:29 pm, Wait…..what, we have volunteer firefighters?

How can that be? Anonymous at 1:13 pm said “Volunteers are not welcome in any of the “professional” areas of the municipal government…you know it and I know it.”

So one of you is wrong……only question is which one…..HMMMMMM

  13. Hey Boyd – what if that person in the chopper were your mother? Things that make you go hmmm…….

  14. We do have volunteer fire fighters. Some of them even go on to be put on the paid force. Check your home insurance. One gets a reduction if paid, and thus always ready, firefighters are available. I was at a party over the Paramus firehouse a number of years ago. The alarms went off, and gradually the lot filled with firefighters. And, while whatever is was was merrily burning, they waited and waited. It seems no drivers had shown up. Volunteer firefighters must wait for the whole crew and drivers to show up, and no matter how speedy the response (my son and grandson say drivers don’t respect a blue light–both have been volunteers–and that slows up arrival times. By the way, do you slow or move over to let a blue light go by you?) it is always much slower than a paid force.
