Ridgewood NJ, Residents of Bergen County experienced a minor shake Friday afternoon as a 2.4 magnitude earthquake struck the region shortly after 1 p.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
Details of the Quake
The earthquake was centered southeast of Paramus and occurred at 1:02 p.m., USGS officials reported. While the tremor was mild, it was felt across several nearby towns, including Ridgewood.
Bergen County’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM) confirmed the quake, issuing a statement:
“We are confirming an earthquake through the USGS that has impacted the Paramus area. It is reported to be a magnitude of 2.4. Please call 9-1-1 to report emergencies only.”
OEM also noted that no reports of serious damage have been received but assured residents that the situation is being closely monitored.
Ridgewood’s Response
In Ridgewood, Village Manager Keith Kazmark addressed the event through an E-Notice, stating:
“A 2.4 magnitude earthquake was felt in parts of Ridgewood just after 1:00 pm today. According to the United States Geological Survey, it was centered about 1 kilometer east-southeast of Paramus. The Village administration has met with our Office of Emergency Management, and all appears to be well in Ridgewood.”
Kazmark encouraged residents with public safety concerns to contact Northwest Bergen Central Dispatch at 201-251-6700.

Really felt it here in Paramus. House shook several times. At first we thought it was a sonic boom or fallen tree.
I thought it was low flying drones
Should we all have “go bags” now? Not being facetious. On the other hand, does it make sense to drive around in an earthquake?
In general we should probably have small “go bags” to use in any emergency. It’s not a bad idea.
