Despite being called the Garden State, New Jersey is usually associated with Superfund sites (there are 112 here, the most of any US state). So I was pleased to discover that New Jersey is second in solar capacity in the US, only behind my native state of California.

But just to remind me that we’re not living in the Golden State, I also learned that a number of New Jerseyans in well-populated and well-endowed Bergen County are complaining about newly-installed solar panels because they’re “ugly” and (horrors) could lower their property values.

>Hackensack University Medical Center to Apply to Reopen Pascack Valley Hospital

>Hackensack University Medical Center to Apply to Reopen Pascack Valley Hospital
Written by Sabrina Rodak | May 02, 2011

Hackensack (N.J.) University Medical Center will submit an application on June 1 to open a 128-bed hospital in Westwood, N.J., according to a Record report.

An appellate court decision has allowed Hackensack to apply to reopen the former Pascack Valley Hospital in Westwood, which Hackensack bought at bankruptcy more than three years ago. Hackensack plans to operate the new hospital as a joint venture with a for-profit partner.

By Nov. 3, the State Health Planning Board will review the application and recommend an action to the state health commissioner, who will approve or reject it.

The court denied motions by The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, N.J., and Englewood (N.J.) Hospital and Medical Center to appeal the state’s call for applications for a new hospital. Valley and EHMC argue that the call for applications was designed to allow only Hackensack to apply and that a need for a new hospital has not been proven.

>Today marks a major victory for the people of the United States and the forces of freedom and justice all over the world

Dear Friends,

Today marks a major victory for the people of the United States and the forces of freedom and justice all over the world. We are grateful for the bravery of the Americans who raided the compound near Islamabad and killed Osama bin Laden. We are also grateful to the men and women of America’s intelligence services who, through their interrogation of high-value detainees, developed the information that apparently led us to bin Laden. The war goes on and al Qaeda continues to plot and plan against us. We must remain vigilant and we must continue to provide our men and women in uniform and our intelligence professionals all the tools they need to fight and win this war. Today, especially, we remember the brave Americans who have given their lives in the service of our nation and the nearly 3,000 men, women and children who lost their lives on 9/11. Justice has been done.

Sincerely,

The Keep America Safe Board Of Directors

>Village Assets Need to be Controlled

>Village Assets Need to be Controlled

In today’s economic recession and escalating gas prices and budgets that have gratefully diminished, there are ways to save money by eliminating unnecessary expenditures. Gas prices are going up every day and may hit $5.00 by summer. Borough vehicles and their v8 engines get approx 14 mpg and utilize extraordinary amounts of fuel. There is one particular vehicle that that I believe can save the village some cash which can be utilized more resourcefully. Northwest Bergen Central Dispatch (NWBCD) has a director that drives a Ford Crown Victoria. This vehicle was given to the original director (Bob Greenlaw) that started NWBCD to be used only as an emergency services vehicle. This car is equipped with various lights, sirens and radios which basically looks like an unmarked police car.

A civilian at NWBCD drives this take home government vehicle and reportedly uses it for everyday events that taxpayers are providing the funding for. Sources have told me that it has a navigation system on the window and a child seat in the rear. These two points tell me he’s not going to and from work. Another issue that arose was this current director is on the Hawthorne Fire Department. When responding to calls he reportedly uses this vehicle and has been seen with the lights on while responding to his fire house (which happens to be illegal). The village is trying to save money and cut all unnecessary costs. They have laid off village employees and have spoken about police layoffs in the past. This is one way to cut back on the village’s budget. Another source told me that the police department vehicles are constantly getting fixed and have major problems. This vehicle can be better utilized within the police force where it will be used for the correct purposes.

All in all the village needs to see what they have out there and what unnecessary resources can be used for the better of Ridgewood. Just something to think about….

>The Osama File: Case Closed

>The Osama File: Case Closed

Brief from the Patriot Post· May 2, 2011 The Foundation

“What a glorious morning this is!” –Samuel Adams

Osama bin Laden was killed in Pakistan by Navy SEALs on Sunday and his remains were discarded at sea. The raid was conducted with little input from Pakistan.

Osama’s death marks a long-awaited triumph for the United States, but it came much too late and at a very high price. Michael Scheuer, former CIA chief of the team hunting Osama bin Laden, confirmed with great disdain that SpecOps had not one but two opportunities to kill Osama before 9/11, however with Osama in their sights, Bill Clinton pulled the plug on both those operations. Consequently, the 9/11 jihadists settled into U.S. suburbs under Clinton’s watch.
The success of this mission elevates the danger of terrorist attack on the continental U.S. because al-Qa’ida must now assert its relevance in the absence of its leader.

Announcing Osama’s death, Barack Obama claimed that in the aftermath of 9/11, “no matter what God we prayed to were united as one American family.” Horse pucky. There were many instances of Muslims within the U.S. expressing elation over Osama’s attack. Even Obama’s “pastor” Jeremiah “GD America” Wright claimed, “White America got a wake-up call after 9/11. White America … came to realize that people of color had not gone away, faded into the woodwork or just disappeared as the great white West kept on its merry way of ignoring black concerns.”

Obama took full credit for the kill, saying, “Shortly after taking office, I [made] the killing or capture of bin Laden the top priority.” Apparently Obama is under the false impression that killing Osama was a low priority for the Bush administration. Killing Osama has been a top priority since Sept. 12, 2001. Perhaps he will nowtake full credit for everything else happening on his watch, and stop blaming Bush!

Osama’s death is a key victory in the world war against Islamists, albeit a small victory in the Long War against Muslim hatred. Next up, native son of New Mexico Anwar al-Awlaki, Osama’s chief lieutenant, also hiding out in Pakistan.

>Garrett Statement on Death of Osama bin Laden

>Garrett Statement on Death of Osama bin Laden

WASHINGTON, May 2, 2011 – Rep. Scott Garrett (R-NJ) issued the following statement today on the death of 9/11 mastermind Osama bin Laden:

“I commend President Obama for his steadfastness and leadership in seeing this monster brought to justice, and I congratulate the United States military and our intelligence agencies for a successful mission. While justice has been served to Osama bin Laden, we still live in a very dangerous world. We have to remain vigilant in our efforts to bring justice to all other terrorists across the globe that seek to destroy our country and our way of life.

“Today, as we rejoice in this victory for freedom and democracy, let us not forget the victims of 9/11 and the families left behind. My thoughts and prayers are with all of the families and friends that lost loved ones on 9/11. While the death of Osama bin Laden can never replace their loss, I hope this act of justice helps fill the void and mend their broken hearts.”

When Gov. Christie says there must be changes on the state Supreme Court, he is accused of attempting to politicize the body, a laughable contention for people who know in the near past the court has been made up of too many political hacks. (Ingle, Gannett)

TRENTON — At $105,209.45, William P. Whartenby, a lieutenant in the juvenile corrections system, had the 3,664th-highest salary in state government last year.

But after adding $104,036.10 in overtime, a $6,222.50 clothing stipend and $17,705.80 in retroactive pay, he became the ninth-highest-paid employee in all of state government — making more than Gov. Chris Christie, Chief Justice Stuart Rabner, all of the lawyers and most of the doctors employed by the state.

The doctor is not in.

The United States already faces a growing physician shortage. As our population ages, we require more and more intensive health care. At the same time, enrollment in medical schools has been essentially flat, meaning we are not producing new physicians at anywhere near the rate we need to. In fact, according to the American Association of Medical Colleges, we face a shortfall of more than 150,000 doctors over the next 15 years.

And it could get a whole lot worse.

The health reform bill signed into law last year is expected to significantly increase the number of Americans with health insurance or participating in the Medicaid program. Meanwhile, an aging population will increase participation in Medicare. This means a greater demand for physician services.

But at the same, the bill may drive physicians out of practice.

Existing government programs already reimburse physicians at rates that are often less than the actual cost of treating a patient. Estimates suggest that on average physicians are reimbursed at roughly 78% of costs under Medicare, and just 70% of costs under Medicaid. Physicians must either make up for this shortfall by shifting costs to those patients with insurance — meaning those of us with insurance pay more — or treat patients at a loss.

As a result, more and more physicians are choosing to opt-out of the system altogether. Roughly 13% of physicians will not accept Medicare patients today. Another 17% limit the number of Medicare patients they will see, a figure that rises to 31% among primary care physicians. The story is even worse in Medicaid, where as many as a third of doctors will not participate in the program.
