WASHINGTON – Parents remember what it was like to grow up without the Internet, but it’s a different story for their kids.

Take the Internet away, and parents may be in for a temper tantrum.

A recent British survey took a look at the issue and analyzed the online lives of children. Almost half of those under 12 said they would feel said without the internet.

‘Islamist Firster’ president not what he claimed
By Charles Hurt-The Washington Times

ANALYSIS/OPINION:

GOLAN HEIGHTS — Surveying the live minefields, cratered roads and mortar-pocked concrete buildings along the border here between Syria and Israel, it is hard not to be reminded of the historic and monumental disappointment President Obama has been.

When he was campaigning to become the most powerful man in the last standing superpower on Earth, he spoke passionately about changing the world, restoring America’s greatness and bringing more peace and fairness to everyone.

>SHOCK : Gallup state numbers predict huge Obama loss

>Gallup state numbers predict huge Obama loss

Gallup released their annual state-by-state presidential approval numbers yesterday, and the results should have 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue very worried. If President Obama carries only those states where he had a net positive approval rating in 2011 (e.g. Michigan where he is up 48 percent to 44 percent), Obama would lose the 2012 election to the Republican nominee 323 electoral votes to 215.

Homeownership rates fall to 66% as downturn nears a bottom
By Julie Schmit, USA TODAY

Fewer Americans own homes and many of them are continuing to see values decline.

The U.S. Census Bureau reported Tuesday that the nation’s homeownership rate fell to 66% in the fourth quarter, continuing a seven-year drop from a fourth-quarter peak of 69.2% in 2004.

At the same time, U.S. home prices fell 1.3% in November from October and were 3.7% below 2010 levels, the Standard & Poor’s/Case-Shiller home price index indicates.

Latour ,amazing food old school style
PJ Blogger

(RIDGEWOOD- NJ) With restaurant week as an incentive we decided to give Latour a try. I have eaten there several times for diner but its been a while and I have never tried the lunch menu. Latour is located at 6 East Ridgewood Avenue, near train tracks at the very end of East Ridgewood Avenue.

I am a big fan of BYOB , because there is noting worse than overpaying for wine that tastes like it came out of a box. The first thing you notice is the polite courteous service ,the second is the moderate sized portions of amazingly well prepared rich food with an inspiring presentation.

Latour is owned by Chef Michael Latour for the past 14 years. Latour graduated of Johnson and Wales University in Rhode Island and has held several Chef positions in New York’s hotels, including being part of the opening team of the Four Seasons Hotel .Latour  is a member of the Societé Culinaire Philanthropique and a recipient of the Gold Medal awarded by the Les Amis d’Escoffier Society Foundation for Best Sugar Work Piece in the 2010 International Hotel/Motel and Restaurant Show at the Javits Convention Center.

With a pedigree like Michael’s you have reason to expect the best and  for the most part get it. In real old school fashion the personable Chef even takes time out to greet and chat with diners .

The only negatives perhaps were the fact that so much of Latour is old school charm .I would love to see Chef  Latour leave his comfort zone and challenge himself with perhaps some updates on the menu . Its nice to have the old favorites  but to introduce a few new dishes from time to time might entice a whole new crop of customers to the eatery that may currently view it as only a bastion of “that ladies that lunch” crowd. .With that said  If your looking for a formal night out Latour offers a local high end gourmet dinner .The food is outstanding and the staff  is very professional.

The first state-run survey in 22 years that is intended to determine the potential costs of the repair, restoration or improvements needs of New Jersey historic sites will begin Wednesday, state Community Affairs Commissioner Richard E. Constable announced Tuesday.

The Capital Needs Survey will be conducted by the state Historic Trust, which encourages all publicly owned and nonprofit-managed sites to participate in the survey.  (Hester, New Jersey Newsroom)

>Fitch: Underfunded NJ pensions to continue

>Fitch: Underfunded NJ pensions to continue

Fitch Ratings said in a report issued today that New Jersey’s pension liability will likely continue to grow in the coming years because the state has no plans to fully fund the plan for another six years.

The ratings agency said the pension deificit stands at $41.8 billion, while the budget for the fiscal year ending June 30 funds just 14 percent of the actuarial requirement, or about $2.9 billion less than the actuarially required amount.  Those numbers take into account the sweeping overhaul of the pension system enacted last year.  (Isherwood, PolitickerNJ)

>Congressional Budget Office reports another $1 trillion deficit

>Congressional Budget Office reports another $1 trillion deficit
By DAVID ROGERS | 1/31/12 10:06 AM EST Updated: 1/31/12 1:43 PM EST

The government faces a fourth year of trillion-plus deficits in 2012, according to new projections released Tuesday—numbers which also show little relief in the future unless Washington comes to grips with needed changes in its tax and spending policies.

Like Aunt Cassandra coming down from the attic, the Congressional Budget Office steps squarely into the 2012 campaign season with the 147-page report which might have been subtitled “It’s not just the economy stupid, it’s also the debt.”

>CBO: Taxes Will ‘Shoot Up by More Than 30 Percent’ Over Next 2 Years

(CNSNews.com) – The amount of money the federal government takes out of the U.S. economy in taxes will increase by more than 30 percent between 2012 and 2014, according to the Budget and Economic Outlook published today by the CBO.

At the same time, according to CBO, the economy will remain sluggish, partly because of higher taxes.

“In particular, between 2012 and 2014, revenues in CBO’s baseline shoot up by more than 30 percent,” said CBO, “mostly because of the recent or scheduled expirations of tax provisions, such as those that lower income tax rates and limit the reach of the alternative minimum tax (AMT), and the imposition of new taxes, fees, and penalties that are scheduled to go into effect.”

>Latest Congressional Budget Outlook For 2012-2022 Released, Says Real Unemployment Rate Is 10%
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 01/31/2012 10:30 -0500

BLS Budget Deficit Bureau of Labor Statistics Congressional Budget Office Consumer Confidence fixed Gross Domestic Product Medicare None Real Unemployment Rate Reality Unemployment

What do the NAR, Consumer Confidence and CBO forecasts have in common? If you said, “they are all completely worthless” you are absolutely correct. Alas, the market needs to “trade” off numbers, which is why the just released CBO numbers apparently are important… And the fact that the CBO predicted negative $2.5 trillion in net debt by 2011 back in 2011 is largely ignored. Anyway, here are some of the highlights.

2012 Deficit: $1.1 trillion; 2013 Deficit: $0.6 – yes, we are cackling like mad too…
Unemployment to remain above 8% in 2012 and 2013; will be around 7% by end of 2015; to drop to 5.25% by end of 2022.
This forecast is utterly idiotic and is completely unattainable unless the US workforce drops to all time lows and the US economy generates 300,000 jobs a month for 10 years
Needless to say, CBO assumes the best of all worlds in this meaningless forecast
But here is the kicker: “Had that portion of the decline in the labor force participation rate since 2007 that is attributable to neither the aging of the baby boomers nor the downturn in the business cycle (on the basis of the experience in previous downturns) not occurred, the unemployment rate in the fourth quarter of 2011 would have been about 1¼ percentage points higher than the actual rate of 8.7 percent” translation: CBO just admitted that the BLS numbers are bogus and real unemployment is 10%. Thank you
