NOTICE: Separate Recycling from Garbage

NJ State law requires that recycling and sanitation be separated in the disposal process. This will reduce the amount of garbage for disposal which currently costs the Village over half a million dollars annually.

We ask your cooperation in following the law. If recycling is included in your garbage, then THE GARBAGE WILL NOT BE PICKED UP. A yellow sticker will be placed on the bags/container, with collection instructions.

If you have any questions, please call 201/670-5585.

>HALF of Americans don’t pay income tax despite crippling government debt

>HALF of Americans don’t pay income tax despite crippling government debt
151.7m people – 49.5% of the U.S. population – paid no federal income tax in 2009, figures show
By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Only half of U.S. citizens pay federal income tax, according to the latest available figures.
In 2009, just 50.5 per cent of Americans paid any income tax to the federal government – the lowest proportion in at least half a century.
And the number of people outside the tax system could have climbed even higher since as the economic downturn has continued to bite and unemployment has remained high.

The Community Relations Advisory Board (CRAB) is moving ahead with plans to sponsor an awareness-raising campaign on the topic of bullying, focusing on educating and empowering bystanders and observers of bullying incidents to act on behalf of the victims.

Since the start of the new year, the committee – which consists of representatives from Ridgewood and Glen Rock – has turned its attention to the topic of harassment, intimidation and bullying (HIB), which returned to the national spotlight following the New Jersey Council on Local Mandate’s ruling in January that the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights was unconstitutional unless the state provide funding for programs and requirements included in the bill.

>Navigating minefield of STOCK Act

>Navigating minefield of STOCK ActBy Molly K. Hooper – 02/22/12 05:00 AM ET

Eric Cantor was playing with political dynamite when he spearheaded the House’s effort to ban insider trading for members of Congress. But despite the hopes of some Democrats, it didn’t blow up in the majority leader’s face.

Cantor’s (R-Va.) shepherding of the politically delicate legislation through the lower chamber revealed new wrinkles in his leadership style.

>Nearly Half of All Americans Don’t Pay Income Taxes

>Nearly Half of All Americans Don’t Pay Income Taxes
Rob Bluey
February 19, 2012 at 9:32 am

This year’s Index of Dependence on Government presented startling findings about the sharp increase of Americans who rely on the federal government for housing, food, income, student aid or other assistance.

Another eye-popping number was the percentage of Americans who don’t pay income taxes, which now accounts for nearly half of the U.S. population. Meanwhile, most of that population receives generous federal benefits.

“One of the most worrying trends in the Index is the coinciding growth in the non-taxpaying public,” wrote Heritage authors Bill Beach and Patrick Tyrrell. “The percentage of people who do not pay federal income taxes, and who are not claimed as dependents by someone who does pay them, jumped from 14.8 percent in 1984 to 49.5 percent in 2009.”

>Christie To Warren Buffett: “Just Write A Check And Shut Up”

“He should just write a check and shut up. Really. And just contribute. I’m tired of hearing about it. If he wants to give the government more money, he’s got the ability to write a check. Go ahead and write it,” Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ) said to CNN’s Piers Morgan.

>Obama’s Dividend Assault

>Obama’s Dividend Assault A plan to triple the tax rate would hurt all shareholders..

President Obama’s 2013 budget is the gift that keeps on giving—to government. One buried surprise is his proposal to triple the tax rate on corporate dividends, which believe it or not is higher than in his previous budgets.

Mr. Obama is proposing to raise the dividend tax rate to the higher personal income tax rate of 39.6% that will kick in next year. Add in the planned phase-out of deductions and exemptions, and the rate hits 41%. Then add the 3.8% investment tax surcharge in ObamaCare, and the new dividend tax rate in 2013 would be 44.8%—nearly three times today’s 15% rate.

Keep in mind that dividends are paid to shareholders only after the corporation pays taxes on its profits. So assuming a maximum 35% corporate tax rate and a 44.8% dividend tax, the total tax on corporate earnings passed through as dividends would be 64.1%.

>Gallup Finds Unemployment Climbing to Nine Percent in February

>Gallup Finds Unemployment Climbing to Nine Percent in February
By Matt Cover
February 20, 2012

CNSNews.com) – Unemployment in the U.S. rose to nine percent in mid-February, up from 8.3 percent a month earlier, according to a new Gallup survey. The polling company said this suggests that it is “premature” to assume the economy will not feature prominently in the 2012 election season.

Gallup figures typically provide an indication of what the government will report at the end of the month.

“The U.S. unemployment rate, as measured by Gallup without seasonal adjustment, is 9.0% in mid-February,” Gallup said in its mid-month unemployment survey, released on February 17. “The mid-month reading normally reflects what the U.S. government reports for the entire month, and is up from 8.3% in mid-January.”

>I would welcome the possibility of competing for great teachers

>I would welcome the possibility of competing for great teachers

In order to get a mix of salaries you establish a mix of experience levels. It’s possible to have high performers across experience levels. It happens every day in all sorts of businesses.

I would welcome the possibility of competing for great teachers versus our system today where we are stuck with teachers that have no economic reason to improve or even stay current outside of the union pay scale for their degrees. Communities would get to choose what they paid for the level of teacher performance they wanted in their schools.

Sure there could be disagreements within communities but eventually that would be fixed, again by simple economics. That happens every time a family decides to move out of Ridgewood to a place with lower property taxes and another family chooses to move in for great education.

You’re trying to defend the economic benefit to the community of tenure but there is none to defend. The only beneficiary of tenure is the tenured.
