Replacement of Hydraulic lift and the future of the Central Garage
November 8,2012
the staff of the Ridgewood blog
Ridgewood NJ, While the Village council has opted to replace and install a new in-ground hydraulic lift ,the real issue seems to be the continued operation of the Central Garage facility on Chestnut Street .
Deputy Mayor Albert Pucciarelli told the Ridgewood News ,”that he was “biting my tongue” when he voted for the capital project, which he considered a bandage for a bigger issue.
“This highlights the need to look at the facility on Chestnut Street. It’s very capital intensive,” Pucciarelli said. “I think we really need to look if that facility can be relocated or replaced … for zoning reasons and [because] it’s a capital pig. It requires a lot of money. The very structure itself is in need of repair.”
The Village Council unanimously approved the appropriation of $40,000 from the municipal capital account for the project ,replacing the heavy duty lift that had recently broke beyond repair.
When pressed by residents about shared services and possibly using another town’s hydraulic lift ,Village Manager Ken Gabbert, roughly 20 other municipalities have a hydraulic lift similar to the one in Ridgewood.
“For us to take our vehicles to another municipality when our full fleet staff is here, that would be difficult,” Gabbert said. “Every single opportunity, we explore shared service. If there was a possibility [to share a hydraulic lift] we would do that.(“https://www.northjersey.com/news/177639341_Hydraulic_lift_to_be_purchased_in_Ridgewood.html)
The council will discuss the future of the central garage facility in December .
Does the 2012 Election suggest the sun is setting on the “American Dream” November 7,2012 PJ Blogger
Ridgewood NJ, Does the 2012 Election suggest the sun is setting on the “American Dream” or as one commenter suggests that the “old style “American Dream” of working hard and building your own life has been replaced with government dependency of one sort or another ?
Both the results and the exit polls suggest undeniable that the election of Barack Obama had little to do with his record or any issues facing the nation . A vote for Obama was nothing more than a vote to protect what you were receiving form the federal government . It wasn’t the the economy ,the size and scope of the government ,the fiscal cliff, taxes , or the public debt , it was just free cell phones and food stamps .
The old “American dream” has now been replaced by nothing more than the majority of people feeling entitled to vote themselves government handouts for a minority of people to pay for.
The takers now out number the producers and Sadly “American ” its founding and what it stood for is gone forever.
Fitch Ratings threatens to downgrade the US’s credit rating.
By: Moe Lane (Diary) | November 7th, 2012 at 05:10 PM | 5
Meanwhile, back at the ranch…
Fitch Ratings said that there would be “no fiscal honeymoon” for President Obama, warning early Wednesday that the U.S. probably would lose its AAA credit rating if the White House and Congress don’t address looming tax increases, spending cuts and the fast-approaching debt ceiling.
“The economic policy challenge facing the president is to put in place a credible deficit-reduction plan necessary to underpin economic recovery and confidence in the full faith and credit of the U.S.,” said Fitch, one of the three major credit rating companies.
As you no doubt remember, the President has already managed to get the country’s credit rating downgraded by Standard & Poor; and if Fitch goes then Moody’s is probably not too far behind. So the President’s under a little bit of pressure, here… which is complicated by the fact that the electorate last night decided to make sure that the party calling for tax increases on small businesses – excuse me; ‘the rich’ – kept the Presidency, while also keeping the House of Representatives firmly in control of the party that is adamantly against tax increases. And then there’s the Senate… which is run by Harry Reid, who is even now trying to get new and exciting powers to let him do nothing in particular. So it’s a mess.

Statement from Mayor Paul Aronsohn – Village of Ridgewood Update Nov 7, 2012
Good morning. This is Ridgewood Mayor Paul Aronsohn.
Yesterday, PSEG estimated that over 80%of Ridgewood had power — a considerable increase from the day before. And while we think that estimate is overly optimistic, I am pleased to note that many Ridgewood homes did, in fact, have their power restored over the past 36 hours.
Clearly, that is good news, but clearly, too, that is not good enough.
As I drove around Ridgewood late last night, it was obvious that some neighborhoods, some homes were still very much in the dark. Nine days after the storm, that is unacceptable, and none of us … neither the Village Council nor the Village staff…will be satisfied until each and every home in Ridgewood has its power restored. In fact, I was on the phone this morning at 6am with our PSEG Regional Director urging him to again send more trucks and more linesmen back to Ridgewood … underscoring the need to get the job done as soon as possible.
Going forward, there are three things we should do:
For those without power, it is important that you call PSEG, once again, to make sure that the folks there have your specific house information. With so many areas restored, it is absolutely critical that PSEG knows that your house still has no power.
For those of us in Village government, we will remain single-mindedly focused on making sure that every household gets its power back as soon as possible.
And for those with power — regardless of who you are or where you are — please extend yourself to those in need. Open your home and open your hearts. Again, many of our neighbors are still hurting and still in need of a warm meal and a warm home.
Tonight, the Village Council will meet at 7:30pm in Village Hall. We encourage all residents to join us. There will be a chance for you to express your feelings and ask your questions. There will also be a briefing on the storm .. it’s impact and our recovery.
Until then, be well … be safe … and if you want to contact me, email me at paronsohn@ridgewoodnj.net or call me on my cell phone at 201.213.1811.
Thank you. And please remember, we are all in this together.
Christie Administration Urges Driver Safety and Precautions During Severe Weather
Trenton, NJ – Colonel Rick Fuentes, Superintendent of the New Jersey State Police and Director of the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management, is reminding the public about driving safety as more severe weather approaches the state.

‘Dollar Selling’ : Obama Win Paves Way for Monetary Easing
By Lucy Meakin and Monami Yui – Nov 7, 2012 7:25 AM ET
The dollar was mixed on speculation Barack Obama’s re-election as president will boost chances the U.S. will maintain monetary stimulus policies that tend to weaken the greenback.
The U.S. currency fell versus 8 of its 16 major peers as Obama defeated Republican challenger Mitt Romney, who disagreed with current Federal Reserve policy. Obama now faces the so- called fiscal cliff, $600 billion in tax increases and spending cuts due to be implemented in 2013. Australia’s dollar rose for a third day as stocks rallied, boosting demand for higher- yielding assets. The euro pared earlier gains as the Greek parliament prepared to vote on austerity measures.
Treasury Quietly Warns: ‘Expect Debt Limit to Be Reached Near End of 2012’
By Terence P. Jeffrey
November 6, 2012
(CNSNews.com) – The U.S. Treasury quietly warned at the end of a statement issued last Wednesday that it expects the federal government to hit its legal debt limit before the end of this year–which means before the new Congress is seated–and that “extraordinary measures” will be needed before then to keep the government fully funded into the early part of 2013.
On Aug. 2, 2011, President Obama signed a deal he had negotiated with congressional leaders to increase the debt limit of the federal government by $2.4 trillion. But, now, after only 15 months, almost all of that additional borrowing authority has been exhausted.
Although Treasury revealed in its statement on Wednesday that it was likely to hit the debt limit by the end of the year, Treasury Secretary Geithner failed to respond to a letter that Senate Finance Ranking Member Orrin Hatch and Senate Budget Ranking Member Jeff Sessions sent to him on Oct. 15 demanding that he notify them by Nov. 1 what he believes to be the exact date Treasury will hit the debt limit and the date he expects to begin using “extraordinary measures” to avoid it.
“Treasury continues to expect the debt limit to be reached near the end of 2012,” says the tenth paragraph of the “Quarterly Refunding Statement” put out by Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Financial Markets Matthew Rutherford.
There are many important announcements below concerning the warming shelter
and the coming storm today.
whether you have power or still out, please read the information below.
Volunteers and Food Preparers especially please read!!!
FOOD PREPARERS FOR TODAY – WEDNESDAY – PLEASE DO NOT PREPARE FOOD
With so many getting power back our numbers at the shelter are dwindling
rapidly. This is a GOOD THING!
The amount of food yesterday was unbelievable and the left overs will more
than feed everyone today.
THEREFORE, ANYONE WHO WAS SCHEDULED TO PREPARE FOOD FOR LUNCH OR DINNER
TODAY (WEDNESDAY) PLEASE DO NOT PREPARE IT.
Thank for you being there to assist but I do not want any food to go to
waste. Right now I have three refrigerators filled with food for today!
THOSE PREPARING FOOD FOR THURSDAY AND FRIDAY:
I want to put you in a “holding pattern”. There is a good possibility we
will be closing the shelter sometime between now and Friday. The main factor
will be the approaching storm. Please watch future emails for updates.
VOLUNTEERS:
At this time, all volunteers should report to for their scheduled time.
I do need one volunteer for tonight/Thurs. morning from 3-5am. Please
contact me as soon as possible if you are able to cover this shift.
THE APPROACHING STORM:
Today’s storm may knock out power to some residents who have had their power
restored or to those who never lost it in the hurricane.
If this should happen, PLEASE do not hesitate to come to the warming
shelter. We have PLENTY of food, cots and coffee! (and hopefully
electricity!). If you would like to stay overnight, please bring your own
pillow and blanket.
UTILITY WORKERS:
Many of the utility workers in the area have come from out of state
companies lending a helping hand. They have left their families behind so
that we can return to some “normalcy.” If you happen to have the opportunity
to see any of them on the road today or if they are working in your
neighborhood, please extend and invitation to them to join us at OLMC for a
cup of coffee or a HOT MEAL!
