March 2014
Dear Mrs. Mailander,
On behalf of the members of the Ridgewood Fire Department, I am pleased to present you with the 2013 Annual Report. This report provides a summary of the departments activities from January 1, 2013 through December 31, 2013. In this report, you will learn about the personnel, facilities, equipment, and programs that serve you and our residents. You will learn that our primary mission is to take care of our citizens, some who are having the “worst day of their lives.” You will also learn how we deliver this vital service through Fire Prevention,
Public Education, and Emergency response. You will see how the Firefighters are continually focused on improvements, implementing best practices, and developing performance enhancements in all areas of our Department. In 2013, there were many changes in Fire Department staffing.
There were four retirements, one promotion, and three new appointments. The Fire Department is a proactive organization staffed with 40 professional firefighters, dedicated to the delivery of service to the citizens and visitors of Ridgewood. We proudly deliver this service through two fire stations strategically located throughout the Village.
As our Village copes with budget restraints, the expectation of our citizens to have quality emergency service has not changed. This department will work hard to meet these demands, continually striving to be one of the finest Fire Departments in the country. Every member of the Ridgewood Fire Department endeavors to insure that our budget is fiscally sound, comprised of wise choices and decisions that best provide fire services to the Village. We strive to make our partnership with the Village of Ridgewood stronger and will never take for granted the support we receive from our community.
In 2013, we placed in service a new fire engine for the fire station located at 311 West Glen Ave. We also outfitted all the firefighters with new state of the art firefighting gear and personnel bailout system. The fire engine, firefighting gear, and bailout system was paid for by a grant from the Assistance to Firefighting Grant Program that covered 90% of the cost. On behalf of all of the Career and Volunteer Firefighters and the Administrative Staff of the Ridgewood Fire Department, I would like to thank you, the Village Council, and the residents of Ridgewood for their continued support. Without this support we would not be able to carry out our mission.Respectfully Submitted,James Van Goor, Chief

?
ok so why is this being posted, why and for who. us the tax payers ,
can any one tell us the tax payer;s of the village how much money is spent on over time in that department and why. we are trying to gasp it.
thank you the new tax group coming in 2015.
That $2.19/day figure is up 11.2% YoY from 2012 vs the property tax cap off 2%. Wonder what the cost per day is if you include the present day cost per person for six months of accumulated sick leave upon retirement, plus lifetime Cadillac health care and pensions ? These workers only contribute 10% of their wages towards their pension, and a max of $480/year for full family healthcare coverage with only $15 doctor’s visit co-pays and $5 drug co-pays. They get that pension at an average of 52.5 after working for 25 years, i.e. they get it for 30 years if they live an average lifespan. They also get 30 year fixed rate mortgages care of the NJ state pension plan for a current rate of 3.68% vs the NJ bank average of 4.23% for a comparable mortgage, i.e. 0.55% discount on their mortgage only for a select few with max closing fees and costs of $1,835. Taxpayers pick up the rest of the difference. Great deal for the subsidized few; raw deal for the rest of us. No wonder our Village taxes are so high.
#4 Charlie shut up if you don’t like it move!!! NO one is asking you to stay I’m sure if you moved tomorrow no one would notice.
No one is listening and no one cares what you say #4 you have long ago lost your creditability here.
#5 and #6 are the same person, interesting
What’s your plan again #6 ? Oh yeah, raise taxes 6% a year and fire teachers because we should have bigger class sizes. Good one, that’s credible. Once again, you’ve only proved that you are to blame for the mess we find ourselves in today.
