Trenton NJ,just one day after Trump Derangement Syndrome is propelled  U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) and Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) to write to U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Dr. Stephen Hahn trying to block the use of hydroxychloroquine (HCQ therapeutics to combat COVID-19.

The New Jersey Doctor Patient Alliance, a non-profit association of 350 doctors has lent their voices to New Jersey State Senator Joe Pennacchio’s call for the Administration to immediately rescind its draconian restrictions on doctors and allow them to prescribe hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) to their patients.

In a letter signed by Stavros Christoudias, MD FACS, NJDPA’s board chairman, the group applauded Senator Pennacchio’s leadership in this effort and restated his belief in the “efficacy of hydroxychloroquine as a suppressant of the disease.”

The letter states the importance of early treatment to suppress the effects of the virus.  “It is imperative to treat with hydroxychloroquine before the disease load increases in the patient, allowing the coronavirus to spread more rapidly to others,” Senator Pennacchio said.

Dr. Christoudias agrees, saying, “HCQ is the best weapon we have to prevent the disease from progressing to its most severe form in the most vulnerable population who are COVID-19 positive.”

“The idea this Administration would make it difficult for the doctors to treat patients at the earliest stages of this viral infection doesn’t make sense and is dangerous.  The State must allow doctors to treat patients with the tools they have.  Unshackle doctors from these dangerous and arbitrary regulations,” concluded Senator Pennacchio.

Senator Michael Doherty also joined the call for the Murphy Administration to stop limiting doctors to using hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) only on patients who have tested positive for COVID-19.

“To save lives now, the Governor must immediately reverse the state’s position restricting the drug’s use to patients who have tested positive,” said Doherty. “New Jersey’s inaction is costing lives and contributing to the overcrowding in our hospitals.

“When patients are presenting all the virus symptoms, doctors should be able to prescribe the best weapons at their disposal. It is indefensible for the State to withhold medication and wait days or weeks for a positive test to come back.”

Doherty noted it can be extremely difficult for people to get tested, and long delays waiting for results are common.

“Physicians are trained to diagnose and treat the sick,” said Doherty. “Trenton should stop playing doctor and let the medical people do their jobs to save lives and heal patients. Sick people can’t afford to wait weeks for treatment.”

Senator Declan O’Scanlon, Assemblywoman Serena DiMaso, and Assemblyman Gerry Scharfenberger (all R-Monmouth) issued a statement today calling on the Governor to rescind restrictions he placed on the ability of doctors to prescribe hydroxychloroquine (HCQ):

“Ultimately, in decisions regarding healthcare treatment it should be healthcare experts and doctors who make those decisions, not elected officials. We have a duty to listen to the experts, and the experts are asking us for the ability to administer HCQ as a preventative measure in the battle against COVID-19.”

“There have been recent clinical trials performed by renowned epidemiologists which have shown high success rates with little to no negative effects. This is no longer anecdotal. Our healthcare experts are requesting this, including the New Jersey Doctor-Patient Alliance, which represents 350 New Jersey doctors.”

“Our healthcare workers are actually on the front lines and if they request to use hydroxychloroquine to help our patients suffering from the COVID-19 pandemic, they should be able to! Elected officials, whether they be at the state or federal level, should not interfere, especially when they are not medical professionals. We call on the Governor to pull back these restrictions on prescribing hydroxychloroquine and to listen to the experts who should be making these medical decisions.”

  1. take control out of politician hands and let the doctors decide. if trump had been silent on this drug, doctors would have full access today. to think the most corrupt politician in nj (menendez) is behind this is no surprise

  2. No more science and clinical testing. We will approve drugs through Change.org.

  3. ii believe you lib dopes call it “settled science”

  4. theres been talk of using zinc and tonic water (that contains quinine) as a home remedy if your not feeling good
