Ridgewood NJ, in response to a troubling increase in residential and motor vehicle burglaries, Ridgewood Police have made a key arrest connected to recent break-ins targeting high-end vehicles. The suspect, Alquan Harris of East Orange, NJ, has been charged with second-degree burglary and attempted burglary of two homes on Mountain Avenue.
Burglaries Linked to Vehicle Theft Surge
According to authorities, the latest trend involves criminals breaking into homes to steal car keys, primarily for luxury vehicles left parked in driveways. This method marks a shift in tactics, with perpetrators becoming increasingly bold and aggressive.
Heightened Patrols and Ongoing Investigation
In light of the surge in criminal activity, the Ridgewood Police Department increased patrols in residential areas and urged residents to stay alert and report any suspicious behavior. A collaborative investigation involving multiple law enforcement agencies led to Harris’ arrest.
The suspect is charged with:
-
Second-degree residential burglary of a home on the 300 block of Mountain Avenue
-
Second-degree attempted burglary of a home on the 200 block of Mountain Avenue
Not Acting Alone?
Police believe Harris may have had accomplices. The criminal investigation remains active, and authorities are pursuing leads that could result in further arrests.
Police Chief Urges Community Vigilance
Chief Forest Lyons praised the efforts of law enforcement partners, including:
-
Detective Jonathan Berger (Essex Fells Police Department)
-
Detective Christopher Davis (Essex County Prosecutor’s Office / Homeland Security Investigation Unit)
-
Detective Keith Killion Jr. (Ridgewood Police Department)
Chief Lyons emphasized the importance of community cooperation in ensuring safety:
“Residents are the eyes and ears of their neighborhoods. Please remain vigilant and report anything suspicious to the Ridgewood Police Department immediately.”
He also reminded the public that charges are accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Protecting Your Home and Vehicles
Residents are encouraged to take preventive measures such as:
-
Locking all doors and windows
-
Securing car keys inside the home, away from doors and windows
-
Installing motion-sensor lighting or surveillance systems
-
Reporting unfamiliar individuals or vehicles in the neighborhood

unfortunately he won’t do jail time in this libtard democrat run state
Diversity is our strength..again…. no surprise here folks
Policing is to soft. These guys are coming into the house to get your keys. If we don’t get tough on policing – their will likely be an ugly confrontation coming
Deport him
These Irish guys are out of control!
Fill yer boots man!
Judging by the name, this person seems a purely white entitled supremacist and hope he gets what it’s coming to him. Only for the extreme rights judges that can be found all over NJ to give him a slap in the hand. That’s why we need diversity in this town, it will be our strength. I am still trying to understand my whiteness , like a once legendary military figure said a few years ago.
Hey Alquan, ever hear of El Salvador?
