River Vale NJ, Assemblywomen Holly Schepisi has decided to break rank and run against Senator Cardinale. In a Facebook post she made her announcement”
“For anyone who supports or follows me I’ve made an incredibly difficult decision and I am not running for another term in the Assembly. I have decided to run for Senate.”
“As a member of the Assembly for over nine years, I have been advocating for our communities; working to reduce property and corporate taxes to keep businesses and families in New Jersey; fighting to get our fair share of state aid for schools and transit; and standing up for small business owners by opposing burdensome regulations and promoting pro-growth economic policies. But the past year has proven how much work there is to be done. My office receives calls daily from small businesses struggling to stay afloat, from families who can’t get a response from unemployment, from people desperately seeking a vaccine for a high risk loved one and from parents wanting their children to be able to safely go back to school. They need and want someone who fights for them, who will be their voice and who relates to their struggles. As a party, we need to bring people back in to our tent and show that we are the only ones currently fighting for them in New Jersey. There is so much work to be done, and I believe I can better serve our community as a member of the State Senate.
Senator Cardinale has been a steadfast ally and friend, and has served our community admirably for over 40 years. During my time in the legislature, we have worked together on many important pieces of legislation and have fought to improve the lives of our residents. I am grateful for his service to our communities. However there does come a time and a place when you become too much of a political insider and it is time to pass the torch. Our residents want people who are going to actively stand up and fight for them and what is important to our district.
After multiple conversations with political and community leaders across the 39th Legislative District, it is clear to me that we need to move in a different direction and focus on what is best for the future of our party and the residents of the 39th Legislative District. I thank the District 39 mayors for their support and for their recognition of how important it is for us all to move forward. Who is better equipped to navigate some of the difficult issues we are all facing? A working mother who is fighting for our district, who is faced with all the same challenges, or someone who has been in office since Jimmy Carter was President?”
