New bridge Landing  NJ, The poet #JoyceKilmer, who lived in #Mahwah, wrote the following poem “Trees” ,

I think that I shall never see+
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.
We agree on the amazing beauty of trees and the stories that they can tell. Part of the master plan at #HistoricNewBridgeLanding calls for native trees to be planted along Main St and New Bride Road. Not only do they provide native habitat and food sources, they also help to soften the modern intrusions to the site. We have quite a few planted and there are only a few more slots left to go. We’re happy to share some of the newest additions that were planted this week! As these trees grow bigger, a canopy will be created to define a nature entrance to the historic core of the site as one enters through the meadow. We can’t wait until the spring and see these trees leaf out!
The recent plantings were made possible due to funding for the Historic New Bridge Landing Park Commission. Stay tuned for updates on other visitor site improvements that we have in store! Do you have a favorite native tree?

  1. RW planning board doesn’t care about trees they just let developers knock down everything and Mike sedon and shade tree is useless

  2. Not to throw shade towards Mister Kilmer but that’s not a very good poem.

    Did you see what I did there…?

  3. Joyce Kilmer was a hero who died for his country in France during WW I.

  4. “Joyce Kilmer was a hero who died for his country in France during WW I.”
    That doesn’t necessarily make him a good poet….
