Washington’s Retreat to Victory
Washington leads the Troops across the New Bridge, 246 years later. Skirmishes, Bridge Tour and Children’s Activities.
This year we have George Washington (reenactor John Koopman) on horseback and General Greene along with two other riders, leading the Americans across the New Bridge 246 years later at the exact location. Pamphleteer Thomas Paine wrote about it in The American Crisis; “These are the Times that Try Men’s Souls, The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands by it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman.” The second day Americans are attacked and defend the bridge.
We will have skirmishes, lectures, tours in houses & barn, cooking in the outkitchen and children’s activities planned throughout the day. The outkitchen is preparing Stewed Beef and Vegetables for the (estimated 60) troops.
