New York NY, Brian Thompson, CEO of UnitedHealth Group’s insurance division, UnitedHealthcare, was tragically shot and killed outside the Hilton Hotel in midtown Manhattan on Wednesday morning in what authorities believe was a targeted attack. The incident sent shockwaves through the healthcare industry and led to the cancellation of UnitedHealth Group’s planned investor day at the Hilton.

Details of the Incident

According to reports, the shooting occurred at approximately 6:46 a.m. ET near 1335 Avenue of the Americas. Police found a 50-year-old male—later identified by sources as Thompson—unconscious and unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was rushed to Mount Sinai West hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead.

The New York Police Department has confirmed the details of the shooting but has yet to formally identify the victim as Thompson.

The suspect is described as a white male dressed in black clothing, including a hoodie, pants, and sneakers with white trim. Witnesses also reported the suspect carrying a gray backpack and using a firearm equipped with a silencer.

Eyewitness Accounts and Scene Response

A hot dog vendor stationed near the Hilton Hotel at the time of the incident reported not hearing any gunshots, likely due to the silencer. However, the vendor noted an unusual police presence shortly after the shooting. Similarly, a hotel doorman beginning his shift shortly after the incident described the scene as “pretty normal,” with no visible signs of disturbance.

UnitedHealth Group Reacts

UnitedHealth Group, which was hosting its investor day at the New York Hilton, initially acknowledged a “medical situation” involving an employee before ultimately canceling the event.

During the investor day, company representatives addressed attendees, stating:

“We’re dealing with a very serious medical situation with one of our team members. As a result, I’m afraid we’re going to have to bring the event to a close today, which I’m sure you’ll understand.”

Legacy of Brian Thompson

Thompson, as CEO of UnitedHealthcare, led the largest private health insurer in the United States, playing a key role in shaping the future of healthcare services for millions. His sudden and violent death has left a void in the industry and prompted an outpouring of shock and condolences from colleagues, stakeholders, and industry leaders.

Investigation Ongoing

As of now, no arrests have been made. The New York Police Department is actively investigating the case, working to determine the motive behind what appears to be a premeditated attack.

Community Reaction and Call for Safety

The incident has raised questions about safety and security in high-profile areas like midtown Manhattan. It also underscores the importance of vigilance and robust measures to protect public figures and business leaders in the face of targeted violence.

Thompson’s death is a somber reminder of the unpredictable nature of life and the need for continued efforts to ensure safety and justice. The healthcare community mourns the loss of a visionary leader, and the nation awaits answers as the investigation unfolds.

  1. Run a stock chart on UNH…outstanding.

  2. Looks like an Antifa hit.

    1. more like a professional “hit”

  3. How does he not have a bodyguard ?

  4. ProPublica ran an article last year exposing some of the behind-the-scenes tactics UHC uses to deny claims, all the while recording record profits and allowing CEOs like Thompson to walk away with ten milly a year. Plus, UHC employees something like 10% of physicians in the US, none of which had any trouble unnecessarily injecting babies and pregnant women with highly questionable mRNA tech. So … you know …

    1. What does any of this leftist shit have to do with thd man bring shot dead?

      1. You don’t think the two might be related? You think denying their claims after they’ve paid premiums for years isn’t going to make people angry? You think that with all the untreated mental health issues present, someone wouldn’t get the idea to do something about it? Americans think of themselves as temporarily embarrassed billionares. If you’re on here, you are not them. You never will be. They don’t like you. Eat the rich.

        1. Haven’t you heard? Being rightly outraged by corporate exploitation is now just “leftist shit.”

And the death of one portly, unscrupulous CEO who would stab the above poster in the back with his dessert spoon in a heartbeat if it meant a few more ounces of pudding on his plate, far, far outweighs all of the lives of ordinary people ruined because they trusted that a system they paid into would help them when they needed it, instead of it handing out death sentences of its own.

And you don’t need to have mental issues to do the calculus here. There’s nothing insane about it. Quite the opposite. It’s testament to how pacified Americans are that these things don’t occur more often. But we can have hope for the future.

          1. There are miles between being rightly outraged and executing a guy. If you can’t see that then you’re the one with mental issues.

            1. Oh, they’re clearly not as far apart as you think since ipso facto the guy got smoked. But I’m not without sympathy. I’m not a monster. I did try to send my thoughts are prayers but apparently they were out of network and denied.

  5. I see a lot of people jumping to conclusions here, as usual. We don’t even know if he died from the gunshot or if it was due to a preexisting condition.

  6. My two cents but I don’t think this was some disgruntled patient or family member. We’ll see if they ever catch the guy. If they don’t then we’ll know. But seems a little too polished to me. The suppressor, the getaway, and now the shell casings with deny, defend and depose written on them. Could be an intentional misdirection and something to give the people to chatter about. Wow, insurance companies are crooks? The little guy is finally rising up? I just don’t think so. He probably crossed a bigger fish somewhere.
