Glen Rock NJ, a Sunday afternoon brush fire near the Ridgewood/Glen Rock border has been traced to the actions of three boys, aged 8 to 13, according to Glen Rock police. The incident, which occurred in a wooded area behind Demarest Street, prompted a swift response from local law enforcement and specialized fire investigation teams.
Fire Reported in a Heavily Wooded Area
Police received a call just after 2 p.m. reporting the fire, located between Faber Field and the Ridgewood border. Given the suspicious circumstances, the Glen Rock Police Department notified both the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Arson Squad to assist with the investigation.
According to a nearby resident, children were seen leaving the area shortly before the fire was discovered. Acting on this information, police located three boys matching the description provided.
Young Suspects Identified
The boys, aged 8, 9, and 13, all from Ridgewood, were taken into custody for questioning. Authorities determined that the three youths were responsible for starting the fire. The boys were released to their parents, and the case will be managed under New Jersey’s juvenile justice reforms.
Glen Rock Police Chief Dean Ackermann stated that follow-up discussions involving the department’s Juvenile Officer and Detective Bureau will take place with the children and their families.
Addressing Youth Firesetting Behavior
In situations like this, Bergen County’s Juvenile Fire Prevention Program (BCJFPP) plays a key role. This early intervention program aims to work with children under 18 who display an interest or engagement in firesetting behavior. The goal is to identify the underlying causes and provide guidance to minimize risky behaviors.
“The program is designed to reduce the problem of firesetting by helping young individuals understand the risks and consequences while offering intervention support,” officials explained.
A Week of Fires in North Jersey
This incident comes during a troubling stretch of fires in North Jersey, which have tragically resulted in several deaths. Fires in Lyndhurst, Kearny, and Franklin Lakes claimed the lives of individuals and pets over the last five days.
As authorities continue to investigate and address fire-related incidents, the importance of fire safety and prevention education, especially for children, is underscored.

Ridgewood needs to police their feral children
Ah, the Entitled of Ridgewood sniffing again and looking to blame someone else
Ah, someone elevating themselves over the perceived entitlement of others with the hot air of their own imaginary superiority.
cant wait to hear the Ridgewood parents blame this on Trump
remember your kid suck because you suck
a lot of you suck at being parents
I know I did.
put them on a chain gang
A testament to the quality of public education in Ridgewood – the kids weren’t smart enough to flee the scene after starting the fire.
There’s got to be more to this story! These kids may live in Ridgewood but they’re definitely not FROM Ridgewood, not spiritually, not socially, no way. That’s not who we are. Did their parent’s just move here from Brooklyn? Are they from broken homes? Maybe it’s time to bring social shame back until people get the idea that they’re not welcome among the civilized.
“That’s not who we are” ,unfortunately those days are long over
what are you the Mayor ? …oh its exactly who you are
bet their parents are blaming Trump and sticking up for the little sh$ts
You must be kidding oh little entitled one lol.
There are all from Ridgewood and one lives on your street
Maybe you’re next , who knows 😅💩???
Nice neighbor you are hoping someone’s house burns down. You should be careful making threats. Fires have a way of spreading uncontrollably.
Oh, we know who you are, Karen. Your dog whistling is loud and clear. Just surprised you’re not asking for pictures.
Get the youngsters help right away so they learn and don’t ever do it again. Fire setting behavior now turns into bigger problems later in life
Sign them up for the military and then they can destroy property and burn shit down and get a ribbon for it.
