Ridgewood NJ, the lost art of silent films is not lost on Director Jennifer Linch, with a perfect score the film captures and every emotion with facial expressions and character dramatization telling the story of a kidnapping, murder and revenge.

A silent film is in short a film with no synchronized recorded sound. In silent films , the plot was often conveyed by the use of title cards, written indications of the plot and key dialogue lines. The idea of combining motion pictures with recorded sound is nearly as old as film itself, but because of the technical challenges involved, the introduction of synchronized dialogue became practical only in the late 1920s with the perfection of the Audion amplifier tube and the advent of the Vitaphone system.

IRS Cracking Down on Cryptocurrency Tax Transactions

Ridgewood NJ , according to CPA James Brown the IRS announced in late July 2019 that it is ramping up its campaign to ensure that taxpayers with cryptocurrency transactions report these transactions on their income tax returns – and report them correctly – by sending “educational” letters to approximately 10,000 taxpayers who either didn’t report their crypto-transactions or may have reported them incorrectly.

The IRS said it used its compliance efforts to identify the taxpayers who may be noncompliant. Because fewer than 900 taxpayers reported virtual currency gains and losses each year on their tax returns from 2013 to 2015, the IRS stepped up enforcement of the rules. As part of that effort, the IRS got court approval in March 2018 for a summons to obtain account and transaction information on more than 14,000 customers from Coinbase, a company that services buyers and sellers of Bitcoin. Although the IRS didn’t say so in its recent announcement, presumably the leads for the 10,000 taxpayers who will receive a letter came from this source.

Valley National Bancorp Merges with Oritani Financial Corp

TWP of Washington NJ, Valley National Bancorp (“Valley”) (NASDAQ:VLY) announced today that it is doubling its market share in demographically attractive Bergen County and enhancing its presence in Hudson County by acquiring Oritani Financial Corp. (“Oritani”) (NASDAQ: ORIT).

The companies have entered into a merger agreement in which the common shareholders of Oritani will receive 1.60 shares of Valley common stock for each Oritani share they own. The transaction is valued at an estimated $740 million, based on Valley’s closing stock price on June 25, 2019.

New Jersey native Sentenced for Continued Support of ISIS

Newark NJ, A New Jersey native who agreed to cooperate with the US government following a terrorism conviction was sentenced on charges she continued to support ISIS. Sinmyah Amera Caesar, 24, received four years in prison and eight years on probation on June 25 after pleading guilty in March to recruiting for the terrorist organization and obstruction of justice. The Brooklyn, New York, resident born in New Jersey signed a cooperation agreement with the federal government in 2017 following a guilty plea to the charge of providing material support to ISIS.

New Government Data Shows the Broad Strength of the United States Job Market

Washington DC, New data released this morning from the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ (BLS) Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) showed that there were 7.4 million job openings in April, once again illustrating the strong job market for people looking for work. For more than a year these data have found that there are more job openings than unemployed workers. For the first time, a new experimental series recently produced by the BLS also allows for an analysis of job openings at the State level.

Lamborghini Fire in Ho-Ho-Kus

Ho-Ho-Kus NJ, At 6:10 pm Saturday evening, while returning from a call, Engine Company 733 spotted a well involved Lamborghini Superleggera on fire at the intersection of Hollywood Avenue and Dogwood Lane.

Engine 733 verbally requested the 1st alarm assignment to the scene and established command. Members from Engine 733 quickly knocked the fire down with assistance from Engine 731 & Ladder 741. The single occupant of the vehicle exited without injury. The Ho-Ho-Kus Fire Department operated on scene for approximately 58 minutes.

Unlocked Cars Stolen in Township of Washington

Twp of Washington NJ, Twp of Washington police are investigating two car thefts and more than a dozen burglaries of cars that occurred early Saturday morning in a series of what appears to be connected crimes.
Both cars were stolen around 1 a.m Saturday and valuables such as money, credit cards and phones were taken from the vehicles, all of which were left unlocked at the time.

The Washington Township Police Department Detective Bureau is investigating and urged all residents to report any suspicious activity in a timely manner and lock all vehicles along with removing any valuables and key fobs.
