Ridgewood NJ, Clean up from an overnight storm continued into this afternoon in Ridgewood, where a large tree branch took down cable television & telephone lines of a home in the 600 block of Whithill Road, and also smashed the front windshield of a vehicle parked in an adjacent driveway. Crews from the Village of Ridgewood’s Parks & Recreation Department-Shade Tree Division were observed using chain saws, backpack leaf blowers, and a giant chipper/shredder to clear debris from two (2) homes on the block. No power outages were reported on the block. Damage appeared to have been limited to the car windshield, some shrubs, and a wooden fence.
How come the town cleans up private property?
Was the damage from a town-owned tree?
this is the 3 rd storm of the week.
Maybe a friend of the Mayor
It was a Village owned tree.
I has a good nights sleep and missed it all …… again.
it would be interesting to see how many power lines and outages and private property damage has been caused by downed branches and trees from TOWN TREES ????????
frankly, I would love ALL of the town trees that border my property removed and smaller, more manageable trees (e.g., ornamental flowering pear trees) planted. I’d even be willing to have the responsibility to keep the trees manageable.
Instead, with each storm and the days just after, I watch and avoid being near the town trees out of fear of dead branches coming down or the tree itself. Yes, the town says the trees are healthy – then again, they said the same thing of those trees that fell during previous storms which were later found with holes within the trunks (hollowed trunks).
Would the trees remain as is if the town was on the hook to reimburse for all the property damage from such trees?
And there were power failures
Its unfortunate that the ‘canopy’ provided by trees is no longer a nice shade providing entity.
Its now turning into a destructive dangerous ‘thing’.
As these trees age, expect more of these problems.
Nature ‘removed many’ during “Sandy’, but the problem will persist and get worse as these large oaks age in the future.
