Washington DC, Congressman Van Drew has raised the alarm over a series of recent drone incursions in New Jersey, warning of potential national security implications. Following several meetings with officials and investigations into these incidents, he has called for immediate action to neutralize the drones, citing evidence that suggests a possible connection to foreign adversaries, specifically Iran.
“What we have uncovered so far is deeply troubling,” Van Drew stated. “There is circumstantial evidence that these drones could be linked to an Iranian drone mothership missing from port, with a timeline matching their emergence over New Jersey. These drones are flying in from the ocean, navigating uncontrolled airspace and avoiding radar. Whether it’s foreign adversaries or hobbyists, we cannot allow unidentified drones to operate in our airspace without consequence.”
Van Drew stressed the urgency of imposing flight restrictions and taking decisive action, including shooting down the drones if necessary. He emphasized that allowing these incursions to continue unchecked poses a significant risk to national security.
Falling Behind in Drone Technology
Van Drew also highlighted the broader issue of the U.S. lagging behind adversaries in drone technology. “Our country is exposed,” he said. “We need to catch up quickly.” He pointed to South Jersey’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) William J. Hughes Technical Center as a vital resource in addressing these challenges.
As Vice Chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and a member of the Aviation Subcommittee, Van Drew pledged to prioritize initiatives to enhance radar coverage along the East Coast and create a drone patrol network. “Our enemies are not waiting for us to catch up, and neither should we,” he said.
Letter to President Biden
In a letter to President Biden, Van Drew urged swift action to address the drone threat, requesting the imposition of flight restrictions and the immediate neutralization of the drones.
“It has come to my attention that New Jersey drone incursions may be an operation by the Iranian government to undermine the national security of the United States,” Van Drew wrote. He expressed concerns that the drones are not linked to U.S. military operations, suggesting they could be under the control of a hostile nation.
A Call for Action
Van Drew’s firm stance underscores the growing concern over drone technology and its potential misuse. As the nation grapples with these emerging threats, his call to enhance security measures and develop a comprehensive strategy serves as a reminder of the pressing need to defend U.S. airspace from evolving challenges.

The Iranian drone mothership has been sitting off the coast for how long now? Do they even know? Is it possible these Iranian drones somehow interfered with our leaf pickup schedule? Those suspicious low water events?
