Ridgewood NJ, are you seeking consistent garbage pickup services? Unfortunately, that’s not guaranteed due to the deteriorating condition of the Village’s sanitation trucks. I concur with Councilwoman Reynolds that the Village must urgently address this issue. She points out that there is $2.3 million allocated for the Schedler field, with an additional $500k added last year. This occurred even as the Village implemented a 6 percent tax hike and faced a budget crisis that nearly led to employee furloughs. Reynolds emphasizes the pressing need to utilize some of these funds to update the fleet of sanitation trucks, either through purchasing or renting.

  1. Renting is out of the question, what is the total amount of trucks need to be replaced between sanitation recycling? I’m sure it’s more than just one or two and they are not cheap. And speaking of village fleet how is the village fleet being properly cleaned. Because that’s a big part of it.

  2. How much is a new sanitation truck?

  3. Councilwoman Reynolds made an excellent point. If we take the almost $500K allocated for Schedler, thé truck can be purchased immediately. Otherwise the purchase has to be bonded and this means the new budget talks commence with us already $500K in the hole. Vagianos accused her of grandstanding. Weitz snarking said she was politicizing. Oh. My. God. These morons need to listen to Lorraine. She is the only one on the dais who is looking out for the taxpayers, not the special interest sports groups.

  4. I noticed a Paramus garbage truck was used recently on the east side. Is this common?
    Whats the cost to Ridgewood?

    1. We also hire cops from other towns too. Why can’t Ridgewood afford to have what they need. Frivolous spending and last year a near miss of a furlough for staff working for the Village. What is next…bankruptcy? There is a mismanagement of funds that is becoming evident. Prioritizing a sports field, for which they are saving money for but yes, safety projects and other items of importance are put on the back burner. You have the Mayor, Paul Vagianos and councilpersons, Weitz, Winograd and Perron to that for these inefficient and ineffective decisions and only 1 quick thinking councilperson, Lorraine Reynolds, who has the common sense that this village requires.

    2. Recently noticed we had an ‘orange color’ Fair Lawn Recycle garbage truck used for our regular garbage pick up on the east side. Ridgewood definitely has a lack of sanitation trucks problem.

  5. Now, if Winograd had proposed this, wouldn’t the title be something like “spending binge continues at Village Hall”.

    1. Winograd isn’t smart enough to come up with a good idea on her own. She is a puppet for Vagianos, just like Weitz and Perron for the most part. She takes ideas that originate from other people and puts it on her scorecard. Check!

  6. She is the only one on the council, including the mayor, with a brain in her head and the good sense to put funds where they belong, on essential services and productivity, instead of putting a giant plastic ball field on a historic property where it doesn’t belong. It is really sad that these jokers, Vagianos, Whino, and Weitz got voted in. Perron isn’t much better but once in a while connects with reality. Our precious tax dollars at work, people!

  7. TBH we have very poor management of this town. Planning seems close to ZERO. Priorities are all messed up and VC feels like they own this town. Even Lorraine for whom I have a lot of respect should not have waited until now to point this out about trucks. How many other quality of service and quality if life items are still not even being considered? Nobody knows.
If this VC was employed in a corporate they would have been fired by now. Their quantity and quality of work is near ZERO. Keep voting for clueless nuts.

    1. It is the Village Managers job to identify things like the need for new equipment, not Lorraine. They were voting,so she gave her opinion, which made perfect sense. The project at Schedler may be tied up so to hold those shoukd be released when there are pressing needs, otherwise it seems very self serving. We have to rremember Vagianos is up for re election and probably has to prove to the sports people that he did something forr them and pay to play, etc. The guy is always angling and only cares about fields and the central business area where he will profit or get some return. It is very obvious.

  8. Here is an Idea, out source it and get rid of the entire department. They work on Task anyway, they get in by 6:00 done by 10:00 and get paid way more than any department in the Village and only work a 1/2 day. There is a why to save our tax dollars which WILL go up again this year!

  9. If it is out sourced , how much would be the savings. Maybe be we should put out to bid to see what comes back.??????

    1. The only reason we have our own expensive trucks, well compensated union employees with pensions and benefits is aroune 1969 our private ‘carter’ had issues. In the old days the ‘sopranos’ ran the garbage business In New Jersey so no other carter would pick it up.
Those days are LONG GONE. Now the big trash companies are owned by public companies and the sopranos are out of the business.
Sell the trucks. Put the current employees in the street department.
      Get current bids. save money

  10. They’re going to need more than $500,000. One truck is probably 300 they need at least four brand new trucks.

  11. Budget season is upon us. I can’t wait to see that 12 percent tax hike this year!

  12. With the price of these new trucks, it is ridiculous 300,000 for diesel, 500,000 for electric, recycling is not bringing in the revenue like it used too. outsourced, sanitation, recycling, yard waste, take those workers and put them in other departments that are shorthanded. Is it really worth keeping sanitation to stay in age. Waste management will come in and take care of sanitation, recycling yard waste, those are the departments that everybody’s getting hurt humping barrels this day and age ridiculous. Or do a trial basis and bring sanitation to the curb like everything else goes to the curb, if that’s what you need to do if you’re short on trucks and personnel, bring it to the curb that might be a cost saving. of course you can get people that cry. No village employee should be behind anyone’s home picking up sanitation. You’re keeping the village in an open lawsuit with so many different issues especially today. Is it really worth it? Don’t think so, you talk to any legal analyst and I’ll tell you no f’in way, So many issues, peoples privacy, slipping and falling on ice and snow, tripping on objects, peeping, Tom, scary residence, and I’m sure there’s other things these things can be all avoided. This is not 1960.

    1. I have to agree with the idea to bring all garbage to the curb. Many towns mandate this. But I’m not in favor of layoffs. We do not need yo outsource if things are done properly with oversight. If the guys have downtime, then can’t they be tadked with other things that don’t require a soecialized skill and if help is needed and they are getting paid?

      1. Hey curb trasher… stay in brooklyn. One of the FEW remaining nice things that differentiate us from Paterson is not having to look at neighbors trash cans. Its bad enough the lazy residents leave their recycling barrels out all week.

    2. cans at the curb dont save $$$. Those of us who don’t spend 7 days a week here would leave our cans out thursday until we return from the beach monday. I pay for your kids school but I’m not bringing trash to the curb. No savings so no more dumb ass sports fields

  13. “Here is an Idea, out source it and get rid of the entire department.”
Here is an Idea, out source the Board of ED this way we can save 2/3 of our tax bill

  14. Bring all cans to the curb. Stop the bull shit.

    1. stay in paterson

  15. Board of Ed is paid 0. Outsourcing would increase the cost because what person from out of town would do that for free?

  16. One truck costs $430k.

  17. How much did the village spend on fancy useless garbage cans downtown?

  18. I was walking my dog as the recycling trucks were doing their ‘nascar’ circuit(s) around the block.
WHY do they stomp on the accellerator to drive 20 feet to the next house?
I’d guess this contributes to increased repairs and shorter lifespan of the truck
I am thankful they put the cans back on the property vs the ‘olympic can toss’ that i see in Midland Park and Waldwick

  19. I don’t know why people are crying about the garbage on the curb, everything else goes to the curb.
    Recycling
    Yard waste
    Cleanup
    Wooden brush
It’s ridiculous, bring the cans to the curb or not how about to the end of the driveway

    1. go back to NYC

  20. I do not understand why the village council, or someone, anyone, can actually explain
    1) what is the actual problem with the garbage trucks such that it now threatens our delivery services,? I never heard of this before despite living in the town over 25 years.

    2) Why did it suddenly become an urgent up or down issue that we must replace multiple trucks? That’s expensive and is a problem in the future generation when you have to replace all the trucks at the same time again
3 ) How many trucks do we have? How old are they on average and can some be repaired?
    4) if we are repairing them, how much are annual maintenance costs, and how much will we save with the new one versus an old one?

    5) Have we not had a program to intermittently replace garbage trucks every X years so we do not have a massive problem like we have now? Why is this not done?
    6) Can we lease these garbage trucks – leasing is available for everything, why do we actually have to buy?

  21. Hey Midlandpark, they put cans on the curb.

  22. We have a problem because we have People in charge that have no idea about sanitation.why is the Director of water in charge of sanitation. What experience does he have for the sanitation and recycling. And that Director is in charge of the utility. He should have nothing to do with village departments. Now this shit is going to get the fan. The village cannot keep on bag and borrowing vehicles for other towns. This is an embarrassment. The village is not the leader anymore.

  23. It’s bad enough that the Village residence don’t follow the rules and laws regarding the weight of some of these sanitation recycling and yard waste cans.
We would love to know the number of injuries regarding this issue.

  24. Who is a charge and replacing the vehicles are not performing, ?

  25. Why is a Schedler ball field even needed? Except on rare, RARE occasions, most village fields are literally always empty. You will be told otherwise, but it is almost certainly nothing more than a scheduling issue. The location can not be any more dangerous.

Outsource trash and recyclables, and why are you concerned with layoffs? What is there to even think about.

Sell the water utility and use the proceeds for important village needs.

    Someone needs to think!

  26. Who is enforcing the rules regulations on the size and weight of the sanitation cans?

  27. Bring the sanitation to the curb already. there’s big problems with sanitation. The trucks are falling apart. They are not safe, shorthanded. This is been a problem for a while.

    1. go back to paterson
