Ridgewood NJ, in response to written comments submitted to NJDEP by multiple Ridgewood taxpayers (NOT VILLAGE OFFICIALS) about the appropriateness of NJDEP scheduling a meeting of the Historic Sites Council on Thursday, June 19, a recognized national holiday (Juneteenth), Ms. Elizabeth Dragon, a NJDEP Assistant Commissioner, NJDEP has informed those taxpayers of NJDEP’s plans to reschedule the meeting. “Alternative dates“ are being reviewed right now as per Ms. Dragon.
So, despite the Village’s intent to disrespect Juneteenth by asking certain employees to work that day, Juneteenth will be respected, and those employees who were asked to attend the project review in Trenton, will instead be able to participate in local holiday related activities.
Sanity actually prevailed in Trenton, believe it or not.

HA. HA. HA
Amazing isn’t it, they are very slick. Remember years ago when they did the Board of Education meeting approval for the budget and August when everyone was on vacation, no one showed up, everyone got back from vacation and the budget was passed by a few yeah .
That’s SOP, like debating an issue they want passed until midnight approaches and everybody gets tired and leaves AND THEN THEY VOTE…
This is their exact plan to do it when no one is around.
In the meantime, Kazmark is probably working all of his political connections with those who actually decide whether the application is approved or denied.
Is it ethical for Kazmark working for the Village to use political connections to make this happen. After all he is a former whistleblower so I would assume someone should be blowiangthe whistle on him sometime soon if this is true.
No matter what side of the political aisle you’re on: this comment is utterly idiotic. How about you open your eyes to the world.
Looks like Ridgewood’s taxpayers just schooled the Village on the fine art of history and calendar literacy. Bravo!
This VOR Council and Administration are a disgrace. Every year they fail to recognize the historic importance of Juneteenth.
It’s a shame when taxpayers have to remind their own town that Juneteenth isn’t just a date—it’s a statement. Fortunately, Trenton got the message
While Ridgewood’s leadership skipped the memo on Juneteenth, at least Trenton remembered how calendars—and respect—work.
Ridgewood might think Juneteenth is business as usual, but even Trenton figured out it’s time to pause and reflect.
It is unacceptable that Ridgewood’s leadership chose to dismiss Juneteenth by treating it as just another workday, showing a lack of respect for a holiday that represents a pivotal moment in American history
I think it would be better to have made the anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation by Abraham Lincoln the holiday.
Ridgewood’s decision to disregard Juneteenth reflects poorly on its leadership and commitment to inclusivity, or lack thereof.
Juneteenth is more than a holiday—it’s a powerful reminder of the day when the last enslaved people in the U.S. learned they were free. It’s disappointing to see this day overlooked in our own community.
The dogs may howl but the caravan must move on.
Project is dead.
Sneaky they are.
NJDEP scheduled the original meeting, no? so what does that have to do with the VOR board? i think i’m reading the article properly – not sure why people are griping about the board. same old nonsense…..
1. NJDEP scheduled a hearing for the Village of Ridgewood on Juneteenth, a federal holiday observed by the Village of Ridgewood on June 19.
2. Village residents pointed out this conflict to the Village Administration. Rather than respecting the holiday, the Village Manager stood firm that the Village of Ridgewood would honor the State’s request—not the significant holiday or its residents’ observance of it.
3. Once again, the Village of Ridgewood blatantly disregarded its residents and the significance of the holiday. Residents turned to the State Division, which, as public servants, ultimately prioritized the public and this historical holiday by canceling the hearing. This action should have been taken by the Village Manager—not left to the residents to fight for.
To boot, the entire Village Council ignored residents and took no action to address the issue.
Sounds like Kazmark was taking advantage of the fact that the Historic Sites Council is made up of volunteers not paid federal or state workers who may have different standards for being available and it is obvious he was going to ensure that “his peeps” would all fall inline because he is the Real Village Manager. Thus, he ended up with egg on his face when people demanded that this official Federal holiday and significant day of remembrance go unrecognized by him. Great leader, hmm
is this a surprise? We have an all-white council and a mayor who thinks diversity only relates to the Pride celebration.
Any end, we are all still shaking our heads out a few top individuals from the villager Ridgewood still have their job. When they totally screwed up, costing the taxpayers millions of dollars, it was so unnecessary if they did their job properly by having the soil tested this would’ve never happened. Some of us feel that they know they thought they could slide it under the carpet again and no one will pick it up. Someone thought they’re going to be a big hero in front of the mayor council look what I did. I saved the village a tremendous amount of money With taking this contaminated soil from all these locations so the village didn’t have to go by any. Now look. And I’m sure a few got some nice stipends for the savings. What a total backfire what an embarrassment, no one will ever trust the top officials from the village ever again, why would they. Unless you’re a real fool. I’m blaming the head of engineering, the ex manager, should be removed from the village Hall. Let’s stop the bullshit. I got your number.
Free dirt = cost of millions to Ridgewood tax payers to clean up. Why is Ridgewood Water not being held accountable for deliberately dumping the spoil piles?
