Mahwah NJ, a tragic chain-reaction crash involving a semi-truck and three other vehicles resulted in the death of one person on Thursday evening, according to officials.

Details of the Crash

The incident occurred on I-287 North, near milepost 66.3, just before 5:45 p.m., as reported by the New Jersey State Police.

  • A Freightliner tractor-trailer struck the rear of a Honda Civic, triggering a devastating chain reaction.
  • The impact pushed the Honda into an Audi, which then rear-ended a Ford F-350.

Victims of the Collision

  • Lauren Kopko, a 40-year-old from Stratford, Connecticut, was driving the Honda Civic and sustained fatal injuries in the crash.
  • The driver of the Audi suffered minor injuries, while no injuries were reported for the Ford F-350 driver.

Investigation and Road Closures

Officials are actively investigating the cause of the collision. The crash forced the highway to remain closed for several hours as crews worked to clear the scene and gather evidence.

  1. Every week is a bad accident at that stretch. Something needs to be done, and something needs to be done with these truckers, parked on the side of the road on both sides of 287 in Mahwah. You’re telling me the state can’t build a place for them to get off the road it’s ridiculous. These poor guys have no place to go to the bathroom except on the side of the road and sleep on the side of the road come out it’s ridiculous. It’s 2025.

    1. For all the fuel taxes these truck pay, there should be a free 5 star hotel adjacent to the highway.

  2. Instead of all these new apts and stores going up, yes build something for them
