Glen Rock NJ,  on March 22nd  at 8:55 AM,  the Director of Security for the Glen Rock Public Schools reported that a voicemail message was left on a phone extension the prior evening claiming that there was a bomb within a school but did not specify a specific school. The message, which appeared to be from a child, was more than 12 hours old when discovered, and staff had observed nothing suspicious at any of the Borough’s schools. At no time was there any evidence to support the idea that any school facility could have been compromised.

Working in cooperation with the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Intel Unit, Sgt. Greg Carter and D/Sgt. Jim Calaski were quickly able to determine that the caller was a child from Franklin Lakes who did not have the means to enter or create any hazard within the Glen Rock Public Schools.

With the assistance of the Franklin Lakes Police Department, the caller, a 13-year-old male, was interviewed in the presence of a parent. It was confirmed that the child had made the call as a prank.

The matter has been referred to the Glen Rock Police Juvenile Officer for handling. Due to New Jersey’s juvenile confidentiality laws no further information may be released to the public.

  1. Clearly this child needs counseling and some mental help. Parents need to start paying attention to their kids instead of letting them get away with a horrible, scary “prank”. The days of these things being allowable are long gone. Kick the kid out if there is one more infraction and have that parent home school them, then parents may realize they need to see what their kids are up to.

  2. Make the parents pay for dispatching the various agencies.

Has to be a cost for that, right ?

    1. Sure.
Just like they made the parents of the Vanderbilt “tampon girl” pay for frivolously calling 911 ?

  3. Make him do community service.
